This is a thread about some books that I particularly enjoy and was wondering if anyone here had read or would like to. I highly recommend them. It's called the Nightwatch series by Sergei Lukyenenko, he's a Russian author so the setting of the books is in Moscow. The first book follows the adventures of Anton Gorodetsky as a member of the Moscow Nightwatch, basically a paranormal police force. The thing that I love about these books is that the Nightwatch keeps track of the "Dark Ones" (vampires, witches, werewolves, etc.)to keep them from destroying the world, there is a Daywatch that acts as a police force to keep the "Light ones" from destroying the world.

The characters are fascinating and have depth to them, and the story is intriguing and somewhat mysterious without being difficult to follow. I'd give the series a 5/5 and recommend it to just about anybody.

Anyone else read them?

Haven't read the books, but the movies are freaking creepy. Nightwatch is, anyway. Daywatch, not so much.

I was just going to ask if the book was any better than the movie - because I didn't care for much of that. It had plenty of atmosphere. It was pretty. And the kid sharpening a stake while watching Buffy was hilarious.

But I despised the ending. I was already iffy on the premise from the opening, but the ending really annoyed me. I suppose they were going for irony? Whatever it was, it did not work for me on any kind of emotional level.

I haven't seen the movie and the person who lent me the books told me not to. If that's any indication I would guess that the books are much better than any movie.
