Basically movieBob makes some very astounding and perceptive observations about video game culture and his takes on Sonic are no different, and am essentially in 100% agreement. I don't think I played a Sonic game for over a decade and the last time I looked at Sonic was maybe half a decade ago watching some episodes of The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog (the good darker and edgier version where its dr robotnik) and was completely and absolutely happy to see him appear in Smash Brothers Brawl and ONLY play as him now when before it was Fox I played (I'm a cheap bastard).

However as moviebob suggested I and he did so, only and principally because of Nostalgia and not because of any actual merit from the speedy zero attention deficit woodland mammal in any recent video game which I think if the consensus is correct pretty much all of them sucked and SEGA has not idea what to do with him and doesn't care about him and treats him as some kind of drug addicted whore before discarding him once the life of him and the remaining Nostalgia factor is sucked dry.

Watching part 2 now and generally even though some of his "here's an idea for you [X] *shows a picture* think about it" moments or heck nearly all of them I would consider good ideas and support I think I can get behind what he says and hope that Sonic eventually releases a new and good video game on a console I happen to own.

*goes off to watch part 2*

I thought there were some interesting thoughts on game design here (simple stuff, but stuff a lot of people forget). I do no think it needed to be split into two parts over twenty minutes though. Most of what he's saying is repetitions of stuff he already said.

sonic fell so hard as a franchise that it is frankly embarrassing. i do not care if you have never played a video game before, you should still be embarrassed. it is that bad.

Does it matter? I enjoy the videos as a refreshing version of Yahtzee.

Check out rev rants over at destructoid. He's pretty pretentious and sometimes I'm at odds with him (he takes himself more seriously than yatzee) but he's pretty fun to watch.

Also, a lot of people (including me) need to play Sonic Rush (NDS)

Well, yeah it matters, because after the first time he says it it stops being interesting, and I have to wait 3 minutes or so between each new interesting thing he says. Yahtzee has enough jokes to keep it moving, and while Yahtzee talks a taaad too fast, the pace of this guy was sluggish enough (combined with the fact that most of it was repetitive) that I was bored about half the time I was listening to it.

I never noticed any repetition.

It was primarily the second part, where he's basically going back to all his points in the first part and reiterating them, with slightly more emphasis on "so obviously they should/shouldn't do this in the next game."

I saw part 1 as "was is wrong" and part 2 as "here is what we should do"

That was obviously what he was going for, but the vast majority of "here's what we should do" was "the opposite of what I just said was wrong." The only things I recall him talking about in part 2 that were new was going over a few specific ideas on how to use the notion of "speed" in multiple game mechanics, and the plot summary. That was maybe 5 minutes of material, the rest felt like rehash to me.

I also have a low tolerance for podcasts though. I don't like having to listen to someone else talk at normal conversation speed - it's slow and infuriating for me because I could usually be reading it faster, and unlike music I have to be paying enough attention that I can't really go do something else while I'm listening most of the time. Unless I'm actively engaged the entire time (either with jokes or really interest concepts) I'd really rather be reading an article. So maybe I'm just not the target audience here.

I thought crash bandicoot probably had less substance. Sonic at least for some weird reason which I cannot comprehend spawned insane amounts of hentai, specifically yaoi on the internet.

By the way, as someone who hasn't paid attention to sonic for something like 15 years, why exactly was Shadow the Hedgehog so terrible? I mean, I didn't get the sense that there was any particular depth to the story period, so I can't see how any particular character is more lame than any other aside from looks. Was there something bad about gameplay that was associated with him?

I have no idea I assume its simply because they took a good character concept and probably ruined it.

Referring to the previous gen video game, Shadow wasn't what I would call "Terrible". Merely bad.

The jumping and homing gameplay had some significant glitches, and the weapons and vehicles added exactly nothing to the experience (hell, they detracted from it quite a bit), and overall it never felt like it flowed the way a Sonic game should. The multiplayer component was equally trashy and useless.

On the other hand, the multiple path system and the good/evil axis were good ideas, and would probably been better appreciated in a less glitchy game. And though there were glitches galore, it WAS at the very least playable, if not overly fun. Nowhere near as bad as Sonic the Hedgehog for the 360 and PS3.
