What should I do about this?
It's just gone, but it still opens and stuff.

Perhaps you could try describing the problem in more detail.

Do you mean your DVD player?

And how can it be gone if it opens?

How about you describe two things, step by step, in detail: how you previously played a DVD on your computer (when things are normal), and what is different now that prevents you from completing the task.

You'll find it is much easier for others to provide tech support when provided with information such as I have described.

The DVD RW Rom drive vanished. But, I turned the computer off, unplugged it, restarted, turned the computer off again and for some reason it's working.
Before i could play DVDs, burn CDs and install new programs without much of a problem.
Suddenly it's working again, but this will not last very long I think.
I'm wondering if it's a problem with the DVD RW rom, the cables, or worse THE HARDDRIVE!

I have that issue with my DVD drive on my laptop. Turns out that if a CD/DVD is IN the drive when I start the computer, it doesn't register the drive.

If I take the CD/DVD out and restart it, the drive shows back up.

Hmm... Maybe see if there's a firmware update available from the manufacturer?
