why couldn't Bean have been put into stasis to prolong his life while in space? giving him more time to cruise around at near light speed and wait for a cure. the end of the shadow series is about the time Ender in exile takes place, in which stasis is readily available for star travelers.
any thoughts?
i am not sure if this is the correct place for this post, if this isn't, please assist me in getting it where it needs to be

Dinn, from my reading it seems to me that while not quite suicidal, Bean was ready to quit fighting for his life and simply fade away.

I thought the point of Bean going into space with the Beanies was to 1) prolong his life; 2) allow him and his children the opportunity to research their condition and come up with a solution to it.
Stasis would have prevented the second, I think.

#2 doesn't proceed any faster for Bean than if they stayed home, so part of it has to be allowing research to continue by others at a relatively high rate as well.

He didnt think he could be cured, and believed that his children would be covetted for thier genes. To prevent the perversion of his condition he didnt isolate himself from the world, he isolated the world from him. After so much war and death partly in his name he'd rather float through space and watch several of his children grow not knowing who they would become and what decisions they would make if they had the world at thier fingertips.
He didnt want to be apart of Earth anymore, ever since he and Petra married he never cared for humanity again, he had to leave her behind but that was so the other children could grow up in a world meant for them. He sacrificed his love of his family to do what was best for his family, no cure, no going back.

I'm try to recall, maybe someone who has read the books more recently can correct me, but I don't think space travelers are ever put in stasis in the Enderverse. Even a thousand years in the future, in Speaker for the Dead, Ender isn't in stasis while he travels. Space travelers experience a far shortage passage of time than people on planets because they are moving at speeds near the speed of light.
Am I wrong? Are there examples of space travelers being put in stasis in the Enderverse? I haven't read Ender in Exile so maybe this represents an inconsistency between the earlier books and the more recent ones.

Space travelers, I don't recall, but Graff is put into stasis several times at the end of Ender in Exile while in retirement on Earth, a la Mother in the Worthing Saga.

Actually, during Ender in Exile, Ender goes into stasis during the last trip talked about in the book. I assume then that people can choose to go into stasis, but many choose not to.
Edit: It was on his voyage to Ganges.
