I just finished reading this. The incredible and weird thing about it is that, for the most part, he doesn't actually sound crazy. He just sounds extremely desperate. Obviously he's not mentally stable, but it doesn't show as much as you'd expect.

It's really just a bizarre and surreal thing to read. Hell, he emphasizes the need for an automatic weapons ban at various points.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. He comes off sympathetic enough that there's no way it's not going to happen in some circles.

Edit: Looking at the comments on some news sites, it's already happened.

It happened in this circle, though of course it wasn't sincere. Difficult to say how much won't be.

The celebrity dedications at the end are just as strange as they sound.

He needs to be stopped immediately. He has only killed innocent people so far.

Would it be OK if he killed guilty people?

Also of interest in this case is how the intrepid LAPD put upwards of thirty rounds into a truck that didn't match the description of Dorner's. Occupied by two Hispanic women delivering newspapers. There was no order to stop, or to identify themselves. The police just opened fire.

Dorner isn't coming out of this alive, whether he turns himself in peacefully or not.

The way the media is focusing on this guy is just insane. They're empowering his voice by showcasing his actions. I was watching CNN the other day when they had his face plastered on screen for a solid fifteen minutes and I remember saying to my coworker, "Give it fifteen years. They'll make a movie about all of this."

I mean, what do you guys think? Is that unrealistic?

Well, not to put too blunt a point on it, but...you know WHY they did that, right?

If I had to guess (your question could potentially have half a dozen answers, depending on what your opinion of the media is), I would say that they did it so that most people would be able to recognize the man if they saw him on the street.

However, the media does this with everything, including individuals who have already been caught. They plaster faces and names at any given time simply because they know it will get them ratings. I really shouldn't know what the kid who shot up that theater at the batman screening looks like, and yet his face has been burned into my memory because for a solid month it was all over the news.

Giving immortality to immorality. That's the end result of it all.

Because it'll get them ratings, yes. Which basically means that they do it because they know it will get their commercials watched.

While it IS catchy, it's not the media that's giving the immortality.

Andddd we have a second shooting by the police.

http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-torrance-shooting-20130210,0,3955268.story

This is getting ridiculous. The police have officially shot at more civilians than Dorner. What the hell.

You know, I've got to admit, I AM wondering if there really might not be a good dose of 'kill him before he talks' mixed in here, and how we would ever really have a way of telling the difference.

I wasn't using *only* to draw a distinction between killing innocents and the guilty.

I was saying that he started this whole thing by killing innocent civilians and cops, and doing only that.

Pretty sure he already "talked".. The manifesto is all over the internet, without any blackouts, with all names out there. So while I thought that at first, after I read the manifesto, I didn't think as much.

The fact is - the guy HAS grievances, but he's obviously become so unhinged, those don't matter any more. The other fact is - someone fired from a job that goes back and kills people at work generally HAS grievances, sometimes they're even legitimate. But there is no way to EVER justify that action as their means to 'fix' the problem. They're just crazy.

This guy is no different than some crazy jihadist terrorist. He might have had some legitimate arguments, but that doesn't really matter as much now, for him.

I see people jumping on his side all over the internet, and from reading some of their posts, they're seriously FOR him. I guess they would be for Terrorists too, if the terrorists wrote their manifestos in English.
