So I'm reading Churchill's memoirs, and I'm up to the invasion of Norway. I found this description rather amusing: "Norway, with its homely, rugged population engaged in trade, shipping, fishing, and agriculture..." Me, I'm feeling particularly homely and rugged today; how about you? [Big Grin]

Maybe he was channeling Indian English, where homely means home-like or comfortable, and is a very positive adjective for most things & people.
