A video game site refered me to the relativly new Sam Rockwell Kevin Spacey science fiction movie Moon. I watched it with Netflix streaming today and was impressed enough to suggest to you fine but argumentative folks.
The story is very well told and I dont intend to ruin it for anyone, but for the sake of posterity here is the trailer. Which I highly recomend you do not watch.

I'll second the recommendation. Moon was a really great movie and Rockwell was fantastic in it.
While that trailer does give away a little, I don't remember it being very long into the movie before that plot point becomes obvious, so I don't think it really ruins all that much.

Yeah but coming upon it naturally even though you get the feeling of it before it manifests, IMO is a part of what the intended experiance.

I enjoyed it too, and second knowing nothing about it before you watch. It was an interesting way to spend an afternoon.

This movie is fantastic. I spent hours upon hours just browsing the IMDb message boards reading theories and breaking down the movie. This is so great, in fact, that there was significantly less trolling and hate than on your typical IMDb board.
I mean, really, I still think about this movie every now and then and I saw it in theatres somewhere around a year ago.
And the soundtrack is awesome just like most everything else Clint Mansell does. Even Definitely, Maybe had an pretty good score.

I only have one problem with the movie, why would a caretaker AI need a password and also need to type it in? not to mention use an audio/video console when it actually is the computer it is in front of?

While I agree that it is preferable to know as little as possible about the movie before the initial viewing, the movie holds up really well upon repeated viewings. IMO, the impact of the movie isn't dependent on the viewer's lack of knowledge of the plot details. Even with knowing how everything turns out in the end, it's still very interesting to watch the progression of the characters as the events unfold.
And for a movie that didn't have a lot of effects or elaborate sets, there were a few scenes that had absolutely stunning imagery.

I'm not really into movie soundtracks; but as David Bowie's son is the director, you'd think it would be good. I can at least say that it wasn't distractingly bad.
Overall, a great sci-fi one off. Ranks right up there with Children of Men and The Jacket. I heard that they're going to do a prequel or sequel or something.

Whoa I just watched this film. Guess it's gonna take me a little while to fall asleep tonight.
Not only did I know nothing about the movie going into it, I actually missed the first 10 minutes. Now that's spoiler free.

I looked up Sam Rockwell, because I thought I had seen him before... he and Elizabeth Banks should do a movie together. Make it all about talented and working actors who get no respect.

It has some uncomfortable subject matter (not a "family" film!), but Rockwell gives a wonderful performance.

For how much I adored every performer in Matchstick Men (I remember now that Rockwell did more than hold his own in the flick) I never thought to pay attention to the actors as actors. A bit like Edward Norton before Fight Club, gobs of excellant work but no real public appreciation.

I love him in Confessions of a Dangerous Mind (though I know quite a few people who'll disagree on the quality of THAT movie). It was George Clooney's directorial debut.

I enjoyed Confessions of a Dangerous Mind quite a bit.
I am old enough to remember the Gong Show, so having that as a direct reference really helped with getting into the whole surreal vibe of the movie. The people I saw it with had no idea who Barris was, which probably took away from the experience.
For a younger viewer, I wonder if it would help if they imagined Alex Trebek or Pat Sajak as covert operatives (to give the proper perspective re: Chuck Barris.) Posts: 194 | Registered: Mar 2003

I hated Children of Men. It is probably because I read the book before I saw the movie, though the two really don't have much in common with each other. I have no idea why they changed so much, the book had a better story and ending than what they ended up using in the movie.

Moon might be predictable compared to a novel. But compared to 99% of other Hollywood fare? Judge it relative to the medium. It's in the same league as the Wrestler or the Fall.

Moon was pretty good. I still think it falls short of the real classic it evokes ( Solaris), but it is still great nonetheless.

It's slow but incredibly moving. You really have to be in the right mood to appreciate it, otherwise it might come off as boring or pretentious. The Solderberg remake has all the basic elements in place but I think it kind of misses the point of the original.. The original is very haunting and really stays with you.

I think it was one of the more realistic space movies I have ever seen, with the exception of the computer "helping" him out. That was a little bit unrealistic, although possible I guess.
