I just received this email: I am pleased to inform you that the National Screening Committee of the Institute of International Education (IIE) has recommended you for a grant under the Fulbright U.S. Student Program for the academic year 2011-2012...
Now, if I can get admitted to a certain university at which a forum member teaches, I'd be set. Or if I can at least find out when the waiting will cease!

Wow, congratulations! That's no mean feat! Hope the second part of your plan is equally fortuitous.

And glad to hear that we're high on your list. Should be a little while yet before you hear back, though.

Thanks for the info. And yeah, I've been getting more into formal approaches lately.
Edit: Hah, I just went to the homepage and you were the featured philosopher.
Edit2: I also wish I used my other writing sample (the one on skepticism). It's probably just nerves and if I had chosen that one, then I would have wished for the one I submitted.

I don't know, I thought that paper was a bit too sprawling. I liked the Burge paper better.

Thanks for the reassurance. I'm starting to feel better about the process, but am still really worried I'll get shut out because of my grades/institution, despite knowing that a lot of places look past it. Or I'll get shut out because there are so many strong candidates and so few spots.
Also, I just realized, as my friend messaged me the other day congratulating me on getting the Fulbright, that this looks like I got it. I didn't. I'm sorry if anyone here thought I did. That email just means I'm a finalist. I didn't even think about the possibility of this meaning I received the grant.
