I think that probably if you are playing this game you should show off some of the things that you are making that are eating your life, or that you made back when it was eating your life. If you are not playing this I think you should not play it, for your own sake.

Yeah you have children. Stay away. STAY AWAokay try it it's awesome.
I also want to say it's great for children, because it's simple and straightforward and creative and has nearly universal appeal. But at the same time, I don't feel comfortable pushing it on children for the same reason why I felt uncomfortable making an MMO for kids.

Minecraft is great for children as long as you set time limits. Don't let them play if you are incapable of enforcing limited hours or if they can whine their way into giving you more hours. They will try.
They are going to play some games. Better to be minecraft. Minecraft inspires.

Okay, okay, it's safe for children. It's even great for parents, because assuming your kid is at least old enough to strap to the computer chair, you get to experience what life without children was like for about four hours at a time. Kind of like sleeping pills.

I'd be tempted to hop on my MP survival server and take screens to show everyone the things I and my husband made, but I've managed to shake the addiction and am leery of firing it up again.
I will say we constructed the Mines of Moria and filled it with lava underneath a mountain, then we put a glass observation deck in at the top. Then made a huge statue with various colored materials that looks like your little Minecraft dude holding a pickaxe, made another glass observation tower to look at it, and connected the two with an enclosed glass bridge. Meanwhile my friend who played on the server with us for a bit made a sunken house with glass walls and water behind the walls to make it look like an aquarium.
I want to play again now

I've more or less shaken it as well, resource scarcity is annoying; at least trained engineers have a rough idea where to mine, digging random mineshafts for precious amounts of iron is annoying.

My husband and I are playing single player on a friend's account before we decide whether or not to make the jump to multiplayer. He built an expansive castle with an elaborate tunnel system. I'm doing a lot of mining right now with the intent of building a floating city.

It should be more like Dwarf Fortress, where it spawns in continuous 'veins' that go on for a while, not the 3-5 blocks in spawns on average.
