MovieBob says that this movie discontinues X3 and XMen Origins, I did seee X3 and Origins but I'm honestly not sure how this does so, unless I'm missing something. How does it do so?

For Origins, two words: Emma Frost.

For X3, the initial scene with Charles and Erik meeting Jean together.

It makes certain comments about the helmet very strange coming out of Xavier's mouth in X1. It also calls into question some of the dialogue regarding the giant telepathy machine, thing.

Also it makes Xavier's behavior towards Logan in X1 a little odd, considering that he had located and probably read Logan's mind many years before.

As for Charles and Erik meeting Jean- it's not altogether discontinued- you could still imagine that they shared a period of reconciliation, or that Erik simply went along with Charles on this particular meeting for some reason we are not told. It just makes it rather odd.

Basically, First Class just makes a lot of stuff in the other movies seem a little odd.

Except for the part where Charles was walking, despite years having passed between the altercation and meeting Jean.

I forgot that detail. That's important.

Could be the paralysis of this movie is cured, only to have ot recur later... Yeah they just didn't care.

Anything that undoes X3 must be considered a good thing.

There's also the large age discrepancy between Alex and Scott. And I can't reconcile "Raven is Charles's sister" with how the two of them treat each other in the earlier movies--I could see love turning to hate, but to complete indifference? No.

We see Beast as a non-blue, non-furry human when he's a lot older than he was in First Class.

And there was no X3.

It turns the scene where Magneto leaves Mystique on the side of the road in X3 into a much more heart breaking scene.

The original trilogy also states they met when Professor X was 17.

I can deal with Alex and Scott. Nothing in the movies said that in this version they are brothers.

Don't forget Moira being about the same age, with different careers in both movies.

Moira is supposed to be older. She even has a son with Charles, so for her to be young in X3 is just kind of silly. Still, there's no way to say if they are the same Moiras or if they just have the same first name.

First class names her Moira MacTaggart specifically, though, doesn't it?

She's like "Agent MacTaggert?"

Yeah, but in X3 I heard they never say her last name. At least that's what one of the producers of the new movie said, so it could be a different woman. Of course, that's if you believe them.

Easily explained. Professor X wears metal leg braces, and Magneto takes care of the rest. [Razz]

Even jokingly that doesn't work, no Magneto with him at the end of the Wolverine.

I'm a fan of the Highlander franchise though, so inconsistencies can't really bother me too much.

Lol, you can always just say that he is using mental projection, so like, he's really in a wheelchair but he makes people think he's walking.

Win!

They were reconned. No worries.

Hugh Jackman was a nice cameo, but wasn't intended to show they were in the same timeline / universe.

I'll never forgive the writers of X3 for the way they handled the Phoenix storyline. I can't imagine any way they could have botched it more.

Scott could have been clean-shaven whilst mourning for Jean.

Come on people X3 was the best!

That guy who instantly grew back his arms so that Wolverine could cut them off again and again...best movie moment EVER!

I saw this film the other night at a dollar theater not expecting anything better than the last two films.

I hadn't read the reviews. I didn't know who was going to be in it.

It was an excellent and entertaining film. The acting was superb, especially the two leads and Kevin Bacon (great seeing him in a major motion picture again...it's like he stopped being relevant after Mystic River). Michael Fassanbander's star continues to rise and rise and deservedly so. Same for James McAvoy.

The film was somber and sad. None of the action sequences made me eager for them to end. It was kind of like The Dark Knight in those two ways, except unlike that film First Class doesn't rely on an unrelenting stream of dark scenes to sustain the suspense and tension, so it's a better film than The Dark Knight. It's more subtle and subdued.

In conclusion, good movie!

I thought that Kevin Bacon was extremely jarring, but not because of his acting. To me, he's just moved beyond "actor" into "hey, it's Kevin Bacon!" fame. Is it just me?

And Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy were excellent, Fassbender in particular. He deserves every starring role they can throw at him.

That is who Kevin Bacon is. He's also in a band.
