It's that time again! Yahoo just opened enrollment for Fantasy Football 2010, and I jump started out league again.
I made a few small changes to our scoring system, mainly to the defense scoring. Based on a few comments last year, and what Yahoo usually does for IDP scoring I figured we would go with the defensive point system they use. Basically, the main difference is that Tackles and assists were scored too lightly the last 2 years. The average IDP defense wasn't worth very many points, and even a poor WR usually scored as much or more than the top defensive player for the week.
So tackles are worth 1 point (up from .5) and assists are worth .5 (up from .25).
The only other thing I did was add a bonus for exceptional performance in receiving and running, and I did that last year as well. If a QB passes for more than 300 yards he gets a bonus of 1 point, if a WR has more than 200 yards he gets 1, and if someone returns more than 200 yards of punts/kickoffs he gets one. If a RB goes over 200 yards he gets 1 too.
All of which we have done for 1-2 years already, I believe.
Anyone wants to invite a family member feel free to do so. As far as I am concerned the more teams the better, as long as everyone plays the whole season.

OK, Zondas and Civic Minded Five are in......I hope the rest of the teams from last year sign up. I raised the threshold to 12 teams as my BIL is interested in joining.
Anyone want to join for the first time this year?

I'll join. I'm still not a huge football fan, but I had a lot of fun with this last year when my brother roped my family and me into doing a league.

LOL....it's all good. I few years ago I had the 2nd highest scoring team over all and came in dead last head-to-head.

OK, is anyone interested in running a live draft? Not in person, of course, but online? If anyone isn't able to make it the auto draft still works, but it would change things up a bit.....
Either way we still need to pick a draft day as well. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions?

I think I would prefer to have one just because I have never done one before. But it isn't a deal breaker for me

I'd like to do it live for fun and learning, but I'm aware that I'll probably come up with a suckier team that way.

We are doing GREAT so far! We have a record number of teams registered, and I know at least two more people who are considering joining, one of which is my brother in law. He has won several leagues, and is a great guy, so I hope he joins soon.
I was figuring about half way through August for the live draft, probably on a Sunday afternoon.

I'll be joining in again. After last year's final game defeat by 1 point, I'm looking for some amends.

Join up quick, as we are almost filled up. I actually had to adjust the settings to allow more than 12 teams this year, which if it holds up will be the largest turnout we have ever had for our league.
I think right now we have about 12-13 teams already registered.

1pm on Sunday sounds fine to me. I have another draft that night so it's draft day all around for me!

3 pm this Sunday is it. Anyone who can't make it, be aware that your auto draft picks will be in effect!

I have a friend who wants to fill in our uneven league. I'll be getting her set up tonight. She's never played FF, but she's been a serious football fan since she was a kid.

I think I am changing the roster requirements. I think that having the flex player. the wr/rb/te, is a problem with 14 people in the league. We started the flex position when we had8 players as a way of suing up the good players that were undrafted, and making it tougher to win.
With 14 players there is already a problem drafting quality WR/RB's.

Hate I missed the draft, but I did okay with my presets. Apparently I started picking defensive players way early, though.

Lyr is weak at WR too. Sure Moss is great, but the WR2 and WR3 spot are pretty blah. His RB2 spot isn't solid either. The only thing going for him is a slightly above average defensive group.
I guess the bright spot is that in a 12 team league, everyone HAS to be weak somewhere. The players are just too widely dispersed. So that means even if we all have weak spots, theoretically it should all be more or less even.

Huh, Yahoo's can't cut list is a bit more comprehensive than ESPN's. I'm surprised a couple of guys are on there. Looks like a lot of teams have four or so guys on the list, and a couple have one or two.
Maybe guys like Clark and Moss will make up for my poor decisions on who to play at other positions on a weekly basis. My worst position is probably coach.
Edit to add: Also, I forgot to ask this earlier, but I actually don't know everyone's handle on Yahoo relative to who they are on Hatrack.
Kwea, could you post a roster here so I know who on Hatrack is actually running each team?

The Bombs - Carrie Mighty Ketchups - KPC Civic Minded Five - The Tick Nurses - a friend of mine named Nathalie. She has a handle on Hatrack, but I don't know what it is. I think she posted a couple of times about a year ago, but she's not active. Jankees - The Genuine Vash's Stampede - Jim-Me Zondas - Me Harmless - Ecthalion Brillo - Kwea
I think these are right...
Stripling - Godric Losers - Sopwith
I don't know Why Not? or Barnstormers.

I really wish Yahoo's guesstimates on points had some sort of...I don't know, logic to them. For the most part, I ignore the specific numbers on ESPN and Yahoo, but I usually pay attention to their advice on match-ups to see might be better positioned on any given week.
But what I don't get is how their estimations literally change on a day to day basis. I'm pretty well set on my offensive lineup, but I keep second guessing who I want to play for my defense, since I really have little idea as to what to look for when it comes for who to play or sit with defense. So I to a degree, I'm trusting Yahoo more than I normally would, but they keep bumping up scores or bumping them down by tenths and half points every day for seemingly no reason. It's quite troublesome to a IDP newbie like myself.
I'm fairly well set on playing David Harris, Curtis Lofton and Karlos Dansby for my general D spots, but I don't know if I should be considering James Laurinaitas or Paul Posluszny instead. I know they're all pretty decent, but I have no idea how to judge who is better. I'm basically trusting Yahoo's guess.

I assume they jump around a bit because, for example, a certain running back might be going head-to-head with a certain defensive player, but if one or the other or them tweaks a toe, or misses practice, or whatever, the predicted results from that game's match-up will change. I imagine that a number of Yahoo "gurus" all guess how many points they think each player will get, taking all those things into consideration, and then they find the average. So when one of them predicts another tackle or whatever, it averages out to only a tenth of a point difference for us.
