I'm just relieved that Chuck is back, even if only for 13 episodes. I don't have cable, so don't watch the night it's on, so the fact that it moved from a night I work to another night I work doesn't matter - I'll catch it the next morning online.

Was wondering when you were going to start this thread.
I am happy Chuck is getting a proper send off, though I am a little let down with the time slot change.
I am sure this will be the last season of Fringe as well so I am glad they will get a chance to tie it all up.
I was really sad Outsourced got cancelled. Some episodes were better than others but the last half of the season got extremely funny.
As for new shows, I'm pretty interested in Alcatraz, Terra Nova, and Falling Skies. I don't think you mentioned Falling Skies. Technically it is a summer series.
Those are really the only 3 new series that have me interested. Sadly I think Terra Nova will be cancelled after one season. Alcatraz seems to be a in a little bit better position but it is still on Fox and is Sci-Fi, so I don't have high hopes for it either. Falling Skies may do better since it is on TNT.
One thing though.... I REALLY don't know what NBC is thinking with their Monday night schedule. Putting a music show up against Dancing with the Stars just doesn't make sense to me. If someone wants to watch a music show, they are going to watch DWTS, not Sing Off of The Voice. NBC would do better showing a program that was for people that don't WANT to watch a music show.
Lastly, I'm so happy Raising Hope got renewed. I absolutely love the show. I can't remember one episode that didn't make me laugh.

I have never watched DWTS and will most definitely watch the Sing Off again - I really enjoyed hearing the acapella groups.

'Awake' looks trippy and 'Alcatraz' could be fun. Mysterious islands get me every time. I'll try not to get attached, though. It's pretty unlikely either of them will get a season 2.
I was really pleased that 'The Ev(backwards E)nt is cancelled - most of the actors deserved better and should move on to higher things, because the whole show makes/made no sense whatsoever. It actually managed to be worse than 'Flashforward'.

Alcatraz looks similar to The 4400. And it's got Hurley in it, which is cool.

I totally agree. But they've pretty much vacated that night on that front. Which is kind of too bad.

I was hoping the Finder episode of Bones was a spin-off in the works. Those three were hysterical. I don't think I've ever seen Michael Clarke Duncan any funnier, and he picks some funny roles.
I'm not liking the trailer for New Girl. I may start watching Raising Hope On Demand the next day instead. (The premise sounds grim, but it's seriously hysterical. And it's not really about the baby.)
The trailer for Grimm looks just like my kind of show. I'm excited to try that out.
I'm seriously bummed to be losing Outsourced, Breaking In, The Good Guys, and Lie to Me. Probably the Good Guys more than the others. It was the best kind of ridiculous.

I don't know. I first saw Dillahunt in The 4400, where he was pretty creepy. Then he was in Life, and was scary as hell. Then, of course, he was a freaking Terminator. And finally, I got to see him as a lunatic who did all the nasty stuff Michael Westin (he used to be a spy, until...) got blamed for. So the idea of seeing him in a comedy is kind of weird.

You skipped the first day of Psych on USA this summer. Is it in July?
I'm thrilled Chuck is coming back for another half season, though, I think it would have been perfect if they had left it with this one. I've always loved that Chuck finds a way to re-invent itself at the end of every season in such an imaginative and awesome way, and I love the first half of the change from Monday, but I really don't care for what they did to Morgan. I hope they modify that in some way at the beginning of next season.
Lisa - So, TV starts at 7pm in Central time? I've been meaning to check on this actually, because I'll be living in the Central time zone in a couple months, and my current room mate was lamenting the fact that we can't watch shows together if we're an hour apart, but this would solve that.
So, out of the dozens and dozens of new shows we had this year, how many actually were renewed for next year? A half dozen? This really seems like a terrible way to run a business. They release fifty new shows a year and only a tiny fraction of them actually get renewed, then they spam us with another fifty new shows. But great shows like Chuck get canceled despite being solid performers on a night that NBC is NEVER going to win given what its up against. Ugh. I'm so disenchanted with network television.

It kind of threw me for a loop when I saw him in the show, but he is honestly a very funny guy. I think that ten years from now I will remember him as the dad on Raising Hope.
I can't really explain his character. He is a good person and loves his son but he is just a big kid himself. For example in one episode it shows that his son won't hug him, so as his son grew up he would always set up some sort of horrible prank on Halloween to scare his son. His son would get scared and come running to his dad to hug him. It was funny that he did that but it also made you feel sorry for him for not getting hugs as often as he wanted.
At times he also acts like he doesn't really want to be responsible for his granddaughter. He will try to stay away but then you can see he feels guilty and ends up taking care of her.
I think he is brilliant. I think the only person on the show that I like more is Cloris Leachman. She steals every scene she is in.

Another fan of "Raising Hope" here. Burt is my favorite character on the show and the actor has great comedic chemistry with Martha Plimpton who plays his wife. And everyone loves MaMa.
The show is smart, very well-written, has a great ensemble cast, and can pull on the heartstrings at just the right moment. Plus its laugh-out-loud funny.
I'm SOO glad its back for another season. Though I'm not too happy that a Zooey Deschanel comedy is getting sandwiched between it and Glee. Raising Hope is the show that cleanses my brain after I watch Glee.

Smallville had a good run (10 years/seasons), but it wasn't really canceled. It just ended because they decided it was time. I'd imagine if they could keep the actors longer, CW would probably keep that money train going for as long as possible. Just look at Supernatural. That thing was supposed to end at season 4 and it's still going.
Anyway, I love House and Fringe, so I'll watch those. Oh, and Community rocks. If you disagree then you are lame and I hate you. Especially if you saw the paintball episodes and still don't like it. Then I really hate you.
Alcatraz looks cool, especially since it has the guy from Jarassic Park in it as well as Hurley.
Terra Nova looks interesting, and it's from Spelburg, so it could be good. I like the angle it's going for. Reminds me of Earth 2, except with time travel and dinosaurs. Supposedly it'll take place in two time periods throughout the show, which sounds really cool. And the trailer looks great.
Shows I don't care about: Charlie's Angels, Once Upon a Time, and pretty much most of the other stuff coming out that will no doubt get canceled within a single season. I really don't know how or why these shows get proposed to begin with. Talk about lack of originality.

September, apparently. You can check it out at http://epguides.com/psych/ (epguides.com is where I got the premiere dates for Eureka and Warehouse 13). The title of the first ep is "This Episode Sucks". They get very creative with the ep titles. So does In Plain Sight.

Yes. I've always thought they should do a study comparing Central time populations to the populations on the coasts. I can't imagine that the prime time skew doesn't have major psychological effects. Is there more violence, or different violence, in the two sets of people? Crime? Creativity? Depression? Divorce rates?

CBS rarely comes up with more than a handful of new shows each season. They're a lot more stable than some of the others. That said, there's something to be said for each approach. NBC comes up with some really wild concepts. Some stick and some don't. Like this show Awake. It's a fascinating idea, and I'm looking forward to seeing it. But I doubt it'll get a second season, and if it does, it'll be a close thing. Because high concept shows rarely get enough of an audience. Most people prefer pre-chewed, pre-regurgitated crap. The list of shows that have sparkled and died is much, much longer than any list of smart shows that have lasted.

My problem with the high concept shows is that all they have is their premise. The dialogue, the characters, the story development usually falls apart after the first episode.
Lost's popularity was an anomaly and the studios can try and recreate it as much as they want, but its probably gonna be awhile before that lightning bolt strikes again. High concept thrives on cable but maybe that has something to do with the budgets, quality control, or consumer faith. I know which shows I like on Showtime or HBO, but I can't tell an NBC show from a CBS show or an ABC show. The whole "throw a bunch of stuff at the wall and see what sticks" approach just doesn't inspire loyalty or really encourage me to stick around until a show finds its footing.
And why should I be loyal to a network that isn't loyal to its viewers? For instance, HBO just renewed Treme for a third season only two episodes into its second season in spite of lower viewership numbers. But every week, a million people are enjoying HBO's decision.
But networks are always chasing higher viewership numbers. A show may be doing okay at 3 million viewers a week, but it'll get canceled so the network can gamble on a show it hopes will pull 5 million viewers next year. Meanwhile, 3 million people are cursing the network. We've all been there with FOX.

Agreed. Amazing finale. Castle is my favorite show on television right now, and they did not disappoint.
And Lyrhawn, they moved the premiere of Psych to the fall because they have too many shows returning this summer.

Does Castle actually have a plot? A consistant overarching plot that goes from one episode to the next? I like the premise but I don't like those shows like CSI or the old crime dramas that more or less "refresh" every week with a premise that only lasts for a single episode or two, then they get back to business as usual. I guess that's why I always liked Fringe and Lost so much.

Castle isn't like Starsky and Hutch or Adam-12. Changes stick. There's no massive overarching plot like Lost, but the stories of Castle and Beckett and Castle's mother and daughter and Ryan and Esposito and Lanie at the precinct all continue. One of the plot points (like what finished this season) is the fact that Beckett became a cop because her mother was murdered, and she still doesn't know who was behind it.

Btw, I posted the CW Fall Schedule above. I'm really irked about Hellcats. That was a good show, and the ending, while it would have been satisfying for a season ender, was no series ender.

Okay... so given those five networks, I've pretty much decided what I'll be watching, what I may be watching, and what I'll give one chance to.
The only shows that are staying around from this season that I plan to watch next season are House, Castle, How I Met Your Mother, Glee, Harry's Law, Bones, The Big Bang Theory, The Mentalist, Chuck, Fringe, and Nikita. Cougar Town isn't showing on any of the schedules, but it isn't cancelled, so I'll count that as well.
Of the new shows... there are two that I'm going to watch the pilots of, Charlie's Angels and Grimm. If Charlie's Angels isn't too insulting and Grimm isn't too scary, I may keep going with them. I like women kicking ass and I like urban fantasy, which is why I'm going to give them a chance at all.
Terra Nova and The New Girl are iffy. I think the odds are pretty good that I won't be watching them. I like time travel, but I don't particularly like Steven Spielberg. And I like Zoey Deschanel -- sort of -- but sometimes she's just too quirky. I'll watch the pilots, but they'll have to be pretty damned spectacular for there to be any chance of me watching them.
Then there are six other new shows that I'm really looking forward to. Alcatraz has weirdness and Jorge Garcia. Ringer has Sarah Michelle Gellar, Nestor Carbonell, Kristoffer Polaha, and Tara Summers. Person of Interest has Michael Emerson and JJ Abrams. A Gifted Man has a ghost and Julie Benz. Once Upon a Time is urban fantasy and has Jennifer Morrison. And the Finder was a hoot when they did the backdoor pilot on Bones.
There are only three midseason shows that I'm at all interested in, though. Scandal, maybe. It has Henry Ian Cusick and Guillermo Diaz, and I like both of them, and it looks a little West Wing-ish. Touch, maybe. I can't find a trailer anywhere, so I'm not sure. And Awake, definitely. I can't wait for that one.
I think I watch too much TV.

Hmmm, I started the season with SGU, Chuck, House, Futurama, Castle, Big Bang Theory, and V. I picked up Nikita, the Borgias, and the Game of Thrones. SGU and V are knocked off. House and Chuck should be gone next season.
Feeling kinda empty on the science fiction side. I've always been watching something Star Trek, Babylon 5, Stargate, or BSG since some time during ST:TNG.
Hopefully BSG: Blood and Chrome is good.

I assume by science fiction you mean set in space. Yeah, I wish there was a new show out too. I wouldn't mind a live action Cowboy Bebop series. If I can't have Firefly back I think CBB would be the next best thing.

Yeah, some folks might let the baby cry TOO much which means noise and it's not good for their developing brains either. It doesn't spoil them to pick them up a lot. They're kind of portable.

YAY! I'm all for comforting babies when they cry. I think the reverse is true. They need to be cuddled and coddled when they are little, that way when they're bigger they'll be secure instead of doing the opposite.
Also, to be somewhat on topic, Cuddy is leaving House! ><

I started watching Chuck last night and I love it so far. It definitely has a sense of humor. That, coupled with the spy angle, makes for a very interesting show.

Am I the only one who thinks that Chuck has become Meh? I feel like it has really awesome season openers and enders, but all the stuff in the middle is just awkwardly-to-the-point-of-not-funny. And the character growth is inconsistent. (In particular I'm sick of Chuck learning to be a good spy and then stopping in the middle of a mission to ask Sarah about relationship stuff. Dude, it can wait another few hours).
I stopped watching somewhere in the middle of this season. I don't know if there was a specific reason, it just fell by the wayside as other stuff took priority.
