Intous4, Large, model 840, its the 'Large' one and is like 1.5-2 feet long by 1 foot.

I'm excited, apparently at the warehouse I ordered it from the guy there will ALWAYS mark all packages as express shipping even if I didn't order it that way so I got it in under a day.

I saved like 200$ on it as well, in Quebec retailer stores its like 660$ I got it for like 460$ from Ontario from NCIX wholeseller.

*rubs hands in eager anticipation*

Now I just need to figure out which one of the bazillion programs I should use with it.

Edit: Interesting tidbit, this tablet was actually illegal to purchase in Quebec (or rather illegal for the stores to stock it) as it violates Quebec's language laws by lacking as best as I can tell, french lettering on the box.

In related news, I suddenly realized I can [i]put my 21 inch Cintiq in my lap, AND rest the keyboard on it.[/url] And I had been looking for a place to shout my excitement to the internet, but didn't want to update my facebook status yet because I wanted the old one to attract more attention. And then saw this thread. So... yay.

Life just became more awesome.

What program are you using? The greatest strength of a tablet is the ability to adjust the thickness/opacity based on pressure sensitivity. You can create some pretty snazzy looking stuff if you move beyond the single pixel line drawing.

I just saw a guy on the train with a Toshiba Tablet PC. I suddenly want one really bad, and for the price I paid to fix my computer last month, I could have almost gotten one apparently.

These are pretty good. Far better than I was able to do when I first started with my little Bamboo.

There are a couple problems with proportion, structure, perspective, and facial structure in your latest picture, but by no means is it egregious. I've sent you an e-mail with some quick edits I made to the image that might help you with your future drawings.

Best of luck!

So why is she wearing sneakers?

a) Nike paid promotion
b) She's dressing up but lives in the present
c) The real answer?

The real answer is that I've never owned a pair of nikes in my life (my budget for shoes is around 20$ per year) so I thought it'ld be neat, I've always viewed them as very posh.

In character though assuming I go through with the Doctor Who spinoff manga I want to write she's from the past Edo era Japan but once she's in the present/modern day she becomes enamored with sneakers and wears them all the time as being "really" comfortable.

Sneakers are cool.

Quick tip for hands: If you have a digital camera, take a picture of yourself with your hand in the shape and at the angle you want to draw. Then use it as a reference. If you don't have a camera, keep a small mirror next to your drawing station and you can do the same thing there. If you don't have a small mirror, you can use the bathroom mirror, sketch your hand, then take that sketch with you to the computer and reproduce it digitally.

In short, just get a reference. Hands are beastly things for me without a reference and I pretty much refuse to draw them without one.

Otherwise you're making a great deal of progress. The clothes are coming along nicely and you're doing pretty well on the 3rd dimension with feet. Keep it up!

ETA: I think the quickest fix you could make is to simply erase some of the lines you've made for the fingers on the character's left hand. The palms are just way too small. Look at your own hand and you should notice that the length of your palm should be about the length of your middle finger. In the picture you have the palm about half the size of the fingers.

I also tend to use the head/face of a character for size comparisons on hands. Your hand be about half the size of your face. His look to be about 1/3, maybe 1/4.

I finally got something done. Eventually I decided that as comfy as the Cintiq-in-lap is, it's not good for my posture at all and it's better if I just use it like an easel.

I have no idea if this picture will actually register here. It's from my facebook, but it's the direct link to the image instead of my facebook page:

Kriftin, the half-dwarf half-troll earthstoker

I am not that good at hands or feet, but I made them blobby and covered with fire so it didn't matter so much. Kriftin is my friend's RPG character. He has a long, sad backstory. (It's more sad for the people he met than for him though)

I suddenly feel a whole lot less accomplished >_<

The img tags is because of how TinyPic does its highlighting, it highlights automatically the whole thing including the tags so when I copy and paste it includes them, I don't put them there because I think it works.

You could edit them out. (I guess I can see that you were doing that earlier and then got fed up with it)

For the record, I've been pretty impressed with the rate your improving.

BTW, a HUUUGE strength of the wacom tablet is the ability to do interesting things with color. You should try some experimenting with that, it'll make your stuff feel a lot more complete.

MangaStudio Ex which I use isn't very good with color, it's meant for manga which is traditionally black and white.

Well my goal is to draw manga and sans color features MS is splendid for everything I need or want to do, such as more comprehensible interface and user friendly layers (I use dozens).

Haven't actually used Sketchbook's layer system so I can't comment there. (I normally use photoshop. Can't really imagine how you'd make the layers simpler than that). I just know a lot of people who were learning, doing about what you're doing now, and then suddenly they tried something with color and they were like HOLY CRAP, I can do THAT!!????!!

I can imagine but the most I use in terms of color is tones which MangaStudio has inbuilt support for.

When you said there was a free version I went straight into google looking for it. I found a trial for it and started playing around. It's a lot of fun. It is quite userfriendly and the layer interface works great for me. Thanks for the recommendation.

Hey, Raymond you got a a lot of good things going on in that character portrait. I especially like the reflections in the left (viewer's left) shoulder.

I think if you were to darken up the right side of the ribcage some, it'd increase the overall effectiveness a bit, but it's really nice color work.

I actually don't consider it near done at all, but I got to a point where I was like, "you know, if I'm going to spend this much effort on a piece, it should probably be of a guy in a more exciting pose." This was originally supposed to be a concept sketch in preparation for an actual full page composition with multiple characters. I'm going to move on to the other individual characters and try to do them in ways that look good but are simpler.

I agree with the ribcage comment. I also feel like the feet and hands need a lot of work in general, if I wanted to polish it more.

I actually rather like the hand supporting the stone. It's evocative of both a claw and of fire, which is very effecive.

I'd focus on that right leg. I think he's supposed to be walking, but the angle there's a bit off.

EDIT - although, if you're going for a group shot, worrying about the feet might not be the best use of your time.

I suck at drawing feet, period, so it's something I should be practicing. The character in question has particularly weird feet though. So maybe it's not worth the effort.

Another older picture of the same character: http://psycosmworlds.com/gallery3.html

My friend recently was listening to the Rhianna/Eminem song about domestic violence and was inspired in particular by the line "that's what happens when a Volcano hits a Tornado." His character is a violent rage-caster (gets more and more magical power the angrier he gets) that channels energy into to the earth to create volcanic activity. He wanted to have a romantic interest who was also a rage-caster, but channeled her energy into icy storms. The piece I'm working on is intended showcase the two of them.

Edit (the character in the first pic I posted here is supposed to be standing still, just in a weirdly dramatic pose that people don't normally stand in. I picked the pose mostly out of laziness)

proportions still look a little off to me but I think its now within acceptable margin of errors, hands are still flipping me the bird but I'm making some headway and I just about got shoes down.

Also decided to experiment with integrating line numbers with my line-stick-figure modeling and I think its working out as an improved frame of reference.
