So far it looks pretty interesting, I just started watching it, though I wish they had Saul Tigh from BSG as McCain.

Huh, you know, Hogan would have actually been an excellent casting choice.

I don't have HBO, but this looks interesting.

What's-her-name who plays Palin has it down and locked.

So they vetted her using google over 5 days but did they really notice nothing that was eventually uncovered? How long did that take for the media to "learn" who Palin really was?

e: HA! The bearded advisor dude and the bald dude arguing sound exactly how me and my friends argue when we get angry.

I watched the first 2/3 about yesterday. I thought Julianne Moore had Palin down cold, including the voice. However, Ed Harris didn't even try to replicate McCain's voice. Both McCain and Palin have distinctive voices, so having one match and one not was odd and distracting. He looked like McCain, but sounded just like Ed Harris.

As for the subject matter, it wasn't anything I didn't know (or at least suspect), but it was somewhat interesting to see it unfolding in the movie.

It comes across as more interesting and amusing to see the campaign staff have to do damage control and grow in exasperation but yeah McCain looking like McCain but not sounding like him nails down exactly what strikes me as odd with it. I really want Saul Tigh [Frown]

They could have hired Ellen Tigh as Cindy McCain too.

I just finished it.

Julianne Moore is *uncanny* as Palin. I was shocked at times that I was completely sold that it *was* Palin I was watching.

The film was relatively toothless (unsurprisingly) compared to the book it was based on. There was stuff in there, I doubt even HBO would have the stones to film.

I haven't watched this yet, but I did go to a McCain/Palin rally during the 2008 campaign (for the sake of education, not as a supporter). So, I would be interested to see how similar Julianne Moore's voice and mannerisms are to the way Palin actually was in person.

This. I even got the same sick feeling in the pit of my stomach listening her responses in the Couric interview and her robotic, clearly rehearsed lines in the debate.

I was actually fine with Harris not trying to sound like McCain - once I got over the initial shock of it, that is.
