The third best show on television was just renewed for a final 13 episode season. Color me surprised -- Fox has been losing money on the show for two years, but they love the creative direction? Too bad it never happened with Firefly.
Fantastic news! Creatively, this show is unstoppable. It took a bit to take off, but it has succeeded in trumping Lost with it's JJ Abrams-powered rocket power. I almost gave up with the (boring) first season, but these folks deserve and all-time-Emmy-of-awesome.

I love how they juggle the will they / won't they by continually changing universes and rebooting the timeline. At least you can say that it hasn't been done before.

I really enjoyed the first two seasons of this show, and I'm pleased the writers will get to finish the story on their own terms. That being said, I haven't yet seen beyond season 2.

The DVDs are pretty expensive, so I just haven't had the opportunity to pick the other seasons up yet.

I actually did a dance when I heard this news. I love this show, love the stories, love the acting - it's just the best thing since the X-Files -which is now 20 years old and kind of looks it.
And, since I've always felt that it would have been perfect if the X-Files had finished after season 5, this is fantastic news. Just long enough, but not a moment too long.
Since it's so unusual for something like this to happen, I did wonder if the fact that Anna Torv is Rupert Murdoch's niece helped at all with avoiding cancellation - although probably not. (Not that I'm saying that there's anything wrong with her being his niece, either - she's also a really wonderful actress, and plays one of the best, most likable female characters on TV ever, IMO.)

I didn't really think that Anna Torv was a good actor, until they started with the alternate universe plotlines. It's been a really good technique to allow the actors to stretch themselves. I always thought her acting was a little stiff -- obviously, it was the character (not the actress).
I actually couldn't point to a (current) cast member and not be impressed by their acting talent. I'm cheering on John Noble for an Emmy -- but I think that Anna should definitely get a nomination.

Seems like they learned from Firefly, Family Guy, and Futurama that a show can still make money through DVD sales, even if it doesn't have the numbers behind it while it's on the air. I'm glad they're taking the chance.

Yes, Yes, Yes. That is all I can say. Although at first I thought it was an updated X-Files ripoff (but still well made), it soon went into a totally different direction and became its own show. I agree that the acting really improved and turned excellent by the middle of the second season.

It pretty much WAS an updated X-Files ripoff in the first season. The show doesn't really get going until the beginning of the second season, but since then it's been one hell of a ride. Season 3 is one of the high water marks of modern television, as far as I'm concerned - every bit as ambitious and well-executed as the best of Sorkin and Whedon.
(Season 4 has been great too, but IMO has suffered somewhat in comparison to Season 3 just because David Robert Jones isn't nearly as compelling a villain as Walternate.)
