I felt the opposite about the POV and really hope that it's just for the trailer. I would hate it if it were in the real movie. It ruins the entire illusion and is just dizzying.

Better than I was expecting, but I am not impressed by the little of the actors American accent. Just because Christian Bale does it without a hitch (maybe some phlegm) does not mean that every British actor should play American characters.

I'm digging Emma Stone as Gwenn Stacey, but the casting of Peter seems a bit off to me. Anyone know who/what the villain of this one is?

Garfield is six foot even, he may fit the physical profile of Spider-Man but Peter Parker is meek and something of a victim. Maguire is five foot nine, a small difference but Garfield towers over those teenagers in the hall, not exactly shy little nerdling is he?
Spider-Man is emo just like Batman is a delusional sociopath. Green Arrow is an a-moral child who uses others crimes as an excuse to "play" with his toys. Virtually every fictional character with any depth has parts that can annoy you, the fans even killed Jason Todd because of it.

I just don't see the point of a movie, half of which we saw before just 9 years ago. For those who aren't big fans of the comic - mechanical web-shooters, a new girlfriend (look, she's completely different - she's blonde!) and a dodgy accent really isn't going to cut it. If I still have my ticket stub for 'Spiderman', do I get in half price?
At least let more than five years pass after the final film of a series before rebooting it.
For the record, I'm not looking forward to the forthcoming Batman total reboot (after the next movie) either. But the Superman remake, I'm sort of looking forward to.

If they chose not to make this movie than the owners of the copyright would have to forfeit the ability to make another Spider-Man movie in the future. The rights would have gone back to Marvel, and then to Marvel Studios who have been making much better movies. Last I knew their rights to the Fantastic 4 movies will also be in question soon.

They may surprise you, the studios are picking up on the fact that there are tons of great stories waiting for a bigger audience. Before they went forward with Nolan and his Batman movies WB were working on a live action Batman Beyond. Aside from the fact that non-nerds would be confused they could adapt the Dark Knight Mark Millar books, I really want to see an elderly Bruce Wayne sock Superman in the jaw with a kryptonite gauntlet.

I think it's a shame that they never got to make Fantastic Four 4. Just for the title.
I believe that there is truly horrific (like the actual released movies were good) version of Fantastic Four that someone made and then locked in a vault simply to keep the rights. Perhaps they could do that again.

I'm really quite astounded that this film is happening.
The 2002 film was a big hit and is still very much alive in the cultural consciousness.
I mean, at least 17 years separated 1989's "Batman" and the Nolan reboot. Most people who this new Spiderman film is aimed at probably would have seen the 2002 film in theaters!

My favorite part of the trailer is the scene between Gwen and Peter in the lab. Just his smile seemed very Peter-esque.
Maybe its because I was raised on 90s-cartoon-Spiderman but I don't think "emo" when I think about Peter Parker. He always seemed like a breath of fresh air compared to moody-Wolverine and moodier-Batman. I liked his enthusiasm. But yeah, the directing on this seems very post-Twilight or something. Peter always seemed like the guy who, when asked about what he likes, would then launch into some overeager science story.
I had been excited about the casting. I think Andrew Garfield did an amazing job in "The Social Network." And I'm impressed by how young he still looks. But I don't hear the problems with the accent. If you wanna hear a bad American accent from a Brit, check out the clips of Tom Felton in the new apes movie. Love the boy but his "American accent" is atrocious.

Bale does a barely passing job, as do many Brits. It's just their luck that Americans are far less picky about accents.

Some of Bale's odd phrases I pass off as being spoken by a highly educated trust-fund baby. I have always noticed a difference the accents of upper and lower class, and Bale extends his jaw a lot for the Bruce Wayne scenes which isn't entirely odd for the setting.

I agree with everything Bella said here. It's annoying when you get so invested with a set of films like Batman or Spiderman, and then four years later they just reboot the whole damn thing, essentially saying that none of that other stuff happened. It's like a giant smack in the face for anyone who liked the last set of films. I understand it's all fiction, but how many times do we need to see Bruce Wayne's parents get shot up, or watch Spiderman get bit by the same stupid spider? We all know it happened. This stuff is part of our history now. Why beat us over the head with it?

I just want us to progress to the point where franchises reboot mid-movie, just kind of deciding 45 minutes in that it's just really not happening with the old actors/premise and starting anew with a younger lead.

Younger lead, spend more time on immature angst than story and fund the entire film by filling it with verizon phones, corrola's and everyone drinking mountain dew.
I think this would improve upon the Twilight films... if you can call them films.

So far, word from the San Diego Comic-Con on the footage shown there is that the actor nails it, there is significantly more humor than the trailer suggests, and a lot more wire-work and physical FX (i.e. not all CGI). I'm more hopeful than I was.
I get the feeling this will be more of an Ultimate Spider-Man movie than what we've seen before, and I'm perfectly OK with that. The actor and filmmakers specifically cited it as an inspiration.

Just since we are talking about super heroes...Superman sucks. He's boring, he's so clearly Clark Kent that it's not funny, he's doesn't inspire anything but ZZzzZZz in my book...he's just so perfect and unbeatable...forget the krytonite thing, he just isn't human, he's a god who happens to be a really nice guy, and ultimately his story isn't a human story.

I always found Superman to be over powered and very, very bored. Like SW pointed out he is a God, what would he want with money, women, power... he already has all the power anyone could want. Like The Flash everyone one if his atoms moves at super-speed, he literally thinks faster than the speed of light.
Why does Superman fight evils like Darkseid? because its interesting.

If you haven't read Red Son, do it now. That book is an alternate story about if Superman's ship had landed just 6 hours later...in Russia. It's pretty amazing, especially the twist ending.

What else could possibly interest him? humans with super-strength cannot even effect him. Do you think Superman can feel a breeze? does the touch of Lois' hand on his face even register? he is so far beyond human recognition that human experience's are futile to him. Every day is an eternity, questions that befuddle every lesser being around you are depressingly simple, and then Solomon Grundy starts throwing some cars around the downtown area. Right or wrong, wouldn't you take a punch in the mouth from one of the few living beings who can actually make you feel something just to break up the monotony?
I would also like to suggest Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, commonly referred to as the bible of Batman comics.

Yes to both. Just because you are nigh-invulnerable doesn't mean your nerves don't work.
I also don't buy the "super thinking" part. Sure a few older versions of him have had that explicit power, but in most depictions he doesn't seem especially bright.
I'm no Superman expert, having mostly read/collected Marvel, but your characterizations seem off to me.

There are only a couple of characters in DC who exist at a super fast speed. Martian Manhunter, Superman and The Flash are all moving at super speed all the time, despite wether or not they are moving around.

In reality (i.e. according to physics), if anything moved at superspeed like the Flash or Superman, they'd catch fire. I'm actually surprised they never talk about it in the comics or give any valid reasoning for it. But that's comics for you.
And Stone Wolf, Red Son is a comic and it's in just about every book store that sells comics (like Barnes and Noble and Books a Million, for example), so please go read it. I read the whole thing in less than an hour, which means you don't even have to buy it (although you should).
