My review: A worthy matinee viewing.

Visually stunning. Charlize Theron shines as the evil queen. Everyone else does a serviceable to very good job with their roles.

Soundtrack is great. The visuals are seamless and breathtaking.

Plus you can play a fun game: spot the reference to another fantasy movie. I counted at least one for Narnia, choose your own Del Toro movie, and LOTR.

I'll pass, I got enough of Charlize Theron as an evil witch when I saw Young Adult.

It is a really beautiful film - worth seeing in the cinema just for the scope of the gorgeous CGI.

However, I wasn't that impressed with the acting, even Theron's which seemed to consist of being a shouty diva. And if there was ever a moment for Kristin Stewart to try a different facial expression, this was it. Chris Hemsworth is fantastic at playing an adorable doofus, not so great at accents.

It is pretty similar to a bunch of other stuff. When Snow is riding the horse through the woods, being chased, and she turns around to look at the black riders, I got a total LOTR flashback of Arwen rescuing Frodo - it was almost identical, except she doesn't get cut on a twig.

There were a couple of interesting and imaginative moments with the story which I liked, so it was enjoyable and immersive. It was almost a very good movie, but something important was just missing.

My movie companion made the same comment to me about Arewen. Did you also notice the White Tree of Gondor on Snow Whites shield? We also thought the White Hart was going to be Aslan.

If they had cast someone else as Snow White, I would be a lot more optimistic about it.

I want to see it. It has people turning into BIRDS. You know I love that.
