Does anyone here regularly frequent reddit?
I'm trying to find people to interview for my master's thesis research, but I'm having a devil of a time getting hold of random people. I need someone who was alive and living in Detroit (or the surrounding area I suppose) and especially, anyone who marched with Dr. King when he came to Cobo that June. I just have absolutely no idea how to send a callout to the area to find someone who might have been in the march, so I've taken to hitting blogs, forums and the like.
I know that reddit works via upvotes and downvotes and what not, but I don't know where to put a post or how to word it in a way that might attract enough attention to get people to pay attention and maybe get some responses. As it is, anyone I'm looking for would be older than 60, and the 60+ crowd on reddit is probably somewhat limited, but you never know, and I might get kids or grandkids who can ask their parents and what not.
I just don't know how to find people who were involved in a 50 year old event. Sigh.

Have you considered setting up a facebook site? I know that sounds kind of juvenille, but social networking can be pretty powerful for this kind of thing. A surprising fraction of the over 60 crowd uses facebook to stay in touch with their grand kids.
Set up a facebook site that contains information on the project and how people can contact you if they are interested in being interviewed. Once you have found one candidate that is on facebook, get them to like your facebook site. Chances are good that they will have facebook friends who were also there or know someone who was there.
