Brilliant. Creepy, but amazing. I'd forgotten how much I missed this show. I'm bummed big time that it's only going to be the five days this week, but it is just amazing.

I'm not up on this because I never made it past the first season of Torchwood...are they doing a Doctor Who and only having a few short episodes this season?

Never could get into the characters in this show. I gave it a full season because I love Doctor Who so much.

They're doing it as a miniseries this year. Five episodes, all five weeknights this week. It started last night. It'll air in the US at the end of the month, I believe.

I wasn't keen on some of the characters in the first season - but quite a few of the problems (inexplicable mood swings, incoherent relationships) were ironed out in the second season.
By the end, everyone had become a lot more likable.

Still haven't seen the first episode yet - there was a thunderstorm last night which caused a power-cut during the show.

You should absolutely start from the beginning. There are relationships between the various characters that you won't get if you don't. Also, how can you possibly not have watched the first two seasons of Torchwood? Gah!

If it's not available conveniently online, then in general I haven't watched it.

I agree. What's going to kill me is waiting until Saturday night to see the fifth part.

Raymond: conveniently or legally? Or both?

I started from the beginning and I still didn't get the relationships.

I would say that (if you're not too worried about knowing who dies and who ends up marrying who) you can start watching a show like Torchwood at any point.
That's how I started watching Buffy and DS9 - both of which had long-running character arcs.

Start in the middle, watch it for a bit, and then if you like the characters and the show, you can go back to the beginning later and find out how they became who they are.

Torchwood is definitely not like Lost, or Battlestar, where it's impossible for a casual viewer to work out what's going on.
You'll lose some emotional impact, and some subtlety, and a few jokes won't make any sense, but that's about it.

I hadn't thought about Sarah Jane. This could be a good tie in with the SJA.

The ending on day four was brutal. I can't wait to wrap this up.

ETA: Sorry about that.

I'm just hoping for a do-over, like that year with the Master running things. But they wouldn't do that again.

Sheesh. One ep left... I can't see how they can pull it out.

I appear to have been somewhat confused.

The story was fantastic. But I now hate everyone important to the show.

Tragedy is a part of life but it's not all there is.

That was brilliant. It was the best series they ever did.
By day four I was hiding behind a cushion, peeking at the screen. Which was probably just as well. [Frown]

Oh my goodness... we need a spoiler thread.

Do you all want me to change this to a spoiler thread, or do you want to make a new one?

Recently watched this short season/mini-series on the recommendation of a friend. I liked it, but not as much as my friend expected me to. His warnings about the show's shortcomings helped me to put up with them, but still I found the overall style of the show extremely off-putting (especially the musical score, which was just god-awfully obnoxious most of the time). The writing was good, but it was paced a little too slowly at first. Things didn't get that good until the fourth episode, and only the fifth one was *really* good. I also thought the story was a bit less original than the really great sci fi shows in recent years.
