I woke one morning to a salty breeze coming through my borrowed window of a home built in New England. On vacation with my girlfriend's family, I found "Prentice Alvin" sitting on a desk, yellowed with age but intriguing nonetheless. Looking for some world to delve into, I was excited at the prospect of this fantasy world with no more knowledge of OSC or his works than I do of doodlebugging. I began in the middle, and was quickly so infatuated with this world that I devoured the book in only a few days. Now, at 2:48AM less than one week after I happened upon that half-Red boy, I have read 5 of the 6 existing novels that tell The Tales of Alvin Maker. I have no doubt that before Monday night, I will not have been able to put The Crystal City down before it is finished. I am smitten. I cannot wait to see what lies in store for Alvin. I dread the end of this beautiful series that, in such a short while, has so touched my heart. I long for the unwritten, but hinted at, seventh novel, even before beginning the sixth. I am mystified. Thank you, sir.

Most of us came to OSC's work through Ender's Game, instead of Alvin Maker. I too have vastly enjoyed this series and look forward to the finale.
Just so you know, this side of the board is for non-OSC discussions, so you may wish to repost this on the other side.

The first three or so books of Alvin Maker are probably my favourite OSC books. The world is fascinating and compelling.

Thanks for correcting my placement of this post folks
I just finished The Crystal City...I will be sending my doodlebug to OSC every day from this one hence, urging him - ever so slightly, mind - to complete the tale of Alvin and his trials.

It was the Alvin books that really got me hooked on OSC's works. I think Seventh Son-Prentice Alvin are his finest works.

Kwea, agreed. I still remember thinking how wonderful Red Prophet was when turning the last few pages. I loved that book.

I actually started with Seventh Son as an audiobook (looking for a quick fantasy read) and got hooked. I've read most of the Alvin Maker series and also have recently started the Ender's Game series.
