I have an external hard drive, with about 120 gb of data that I would like to keep, that just stopped working. I think the motor went out.

Any ideas for a DIY fix? At least long enough to copy it to my new HD.

If it's under warranty, check to see if the warranty covers data recovery. There's a slim chance.

If not, pop the case open and pull out the drive.

If the drive itself is good and the case is bad, you should be able to add the drive as a secondary to your current system and grab the data.

If the drive is bad, you'll want to Google disaster recovery options for hard drives, because none of the remaining ones are easy.

Definitely not under warranty. I'll try adding it to my PC as a secondary drive.

Thanks
