It's too bad that Dr. Stewart's latest book is uninteresting and boring but thanks for letting us know in advance so that we can skip it. (Uncle Orson Reviews Everything 11/15/12)
I do find it interesting that you claim that Dr. Stewart doesn't understand math. He has a PhD in Mathematics, he is a Professor of Math, and he is the author of quite a few books on math that are very entertaining and informative. I am a math teacher at a high school, consider myself very well educated in mathematical areas, (as well as many others) yet I have found all sorts of interesting (and accurate) information in his books and have generally enjoyed the ones that I have read. I wonder if the issue here was item three, that he was just unable to relate the two topics.

who would ever even read a book about math anyway. you can't make math into pictures either?? math is really just for boring classes, then you grow up and move on. 2+2 = 4 great we get it? Math never helped people do practical things like what I do, call me when math helps me move pallets at the stockyard and then we'll talk.
maybe nerds just like math class because their delicate little ladyhands won't get hurt if they screw up at it, like in wood shop. LOL

The book in question is from 2011, and he published another in 2012. If you must rant about someone's review, at least get your facts straight.
But really, why bother to argue with someone else's reviews? When I find that a given reviewer's taste is rarely in sync with mine, I -- and this is the tricky part -- stop reading their reviews.

I haven't read the book so I cannot comment on its accuracy but would like to make a few points.
1. OSC doesn't really say explicitly that Dr. Stewart doesn't understand math, more like he failed to demonstrate that knowledge in the book.
2. A PhD and a few books published does NOT make one infallible. I consider myself somewhat of an expert in the field of vehicle dynamics and you would not believe the amount of contradictory and downright wrong information that is published on the subject from the most educated and experienced people in the field. This is why I refuse to accept "he's an expert" as sufficient evidence to support someone's claims.
