Rotten Tomatoes has posted their first review for the new Cap'n movie. Based on our friend Matt's analysis, it's a much stronger movie than Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.

"If comparisons are to be made then it would have to be with Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy, the holy grail of comic book adaptations that are rich in theme, visuals and character. Yet so good is Captain America: The Winters Soldier that it is a comparison made without hesitation."

The early blasts on Twitter called it a "near perfect movie" and said that it outdoes Avengers.

It seems to me by early reports that they've taken the movie more seriously than most of the current Marvel films. Half comic book movie, half conspiracy thriller, it seems the movie has a gravitas that isn't normally reached in the genre.

At the least, it should be entertaining. But if the early word is right, we might have one of the next best comic book movies for nerds to drool over. Time to get my Grandpa off the couch and take him to a good movie.

Interesting.

Just from what I've seen from the trailers my impression has been that this movie appears to have more meat on its bones than most of the previous Marvel movies.

I skipped Thor 2, looked like average, boring, CGI-fest.

But this one looks like it actually tries. Tries and succeeds maybe.

every time I see trailers for Winter Soldier, I think that *that* is what Agents of SHIELD should have been...

Agents of SHIELD, all else aside, doesn't have the budget to do that.

Stylistically, All Hail the King is what Agents of SHIELD should be. That would have been a fantastic cold open for an episode.

It's the story, far more than the graphics, that interests me.

Thor had a huge budget, but the story just looked so damn boring.

What television can't do with CGI, they need to do with writing. SHIELD doesn't do it.

Shield has some problems, but I think that stems from trying to do too much at times while doing too little at other times.

I'm not a fan of procedural shows. I used to be, but Lost changed that for me. With a show like Shield, you can't have procedural episodes. If Shield is going to succeed, it needs to be written more like a comic book. That means each season should have a story arc that has a beginning and an end.

Heroes did this very well in the first season, though the writing in the other seasons were subpar.

Fringe seemed more procedural until the end of the first season, after which it became one of the best Sci-Fi shows of all time.

Procedural shows are so.....90's. It works for Law and Order and cop shows. For sci-fi? Not so much.

I'm SUPER excited for Winter Soldier. Every review I have read has said it is probably the best Marvel movie so far. I think it is going to warrant a day one viewing from me....If my wife will let me out of the house for a while [Smile]
