Hey all!

I'm putting together a "must do" and "must buy" list for a work trip to London and Munich. Can anybody help?

I've been to London before, but it was in the nineties. I'd like to take a spin on the eye, but I'm not sure what else.

In Munich, I'd probably like to check out the Hofbrauhaus and go for a drive in my rented Mercedes.

As far as purchases, I'd like to pick up a few souvenirs and some treats. The family is really into chocolate, board games, Harry Potter, Doctor Who, and miscellaneous geekery. I'm thinking board games and chocolate might be good buys, though I don't really know what to look for.

Any thoughts on activities or shopping?

I was to Munich once for Oktoberfest. I recommend having a large (1 liter) beer under the Chinese Tower in the park. Good food, good beer. Good times [Smile]

Two free diversions in London:

Kings Cross Station has half of a trolley bolted to the wall under a platform 9 3/4 sign. It wasn't there the last time I visited, so I just had to get a picture of my wife disappearing between platforms 9 and 10.

There is a police call box located at 236 Earls Court Road...

Don't forget a power chord/voltage converter.

Jake: you'll have to specify your location. Are you in Hawaii or Guam? If so, I'd guess that you're right.

The TARDIS would be neat -- except for there's already one in Bountiful Utah, up by the temple. That's pretty much where I spend my Saturdays. [Wink]

Just a warning: They don't have hostess twinkies over there.

There is a cool museum in Munich (at least I thought it was cool when I was 11)
http://www.deutsches-museum.de/en

My primary recollection is that it's an interactive science museum (like SF Exploratorium).

If you're just driving without direction, you can add a direction.
East: Salzberg, Austria (with a cool castle on Lake Chiemsee on the way)

South: I misspent part of my youth in Bad Tolz. I don't know that there's anything touristy there, but the blomberg ski resort has a long slide http://www.blombergbahn.de/ (reminder: I was last there at age 11, so I know slides and science museums, but not strip clubs)

West: The "Disney Castle" http://www.neuschwanstein.de/englisch/palace/

North: If you're looking for a downer, you can visit the concentration camp at Dachau.

You can totally buy Twinkies in the UK. You just have to know where to look. Not that I recommend it.

Lots of the big museums in London are still free, if you like that sort of thing.
