I know most of you aren't really sport types here but in case anyone is interested I thought you might want to know that the two professional Ultimate (Frisbee) leagues start their seasons this Saturday, April 12th.

I've been playing competitively in college and club for 6-7 years now. So I have an interest in the sport and its growth.

The American Ultimate Disc League has 17 teams. They will have some live stream of games and then all their games will be posted on YouTube after the fact.

Major League Ultimate has 8 teams and stream many of them live on YouTube. I'm not sure if they will post the ones that aren't streamed live after the fact.

If you're still reading and want to know a little bit more, here is brief history of the two leagues.

The AUDL was founded in 2010 and had their first season in 2012. Reception for the league in the Ultimate world was mixed and a lot of the best players in the nation opted to stay with their club teams and focus on competing in nationals where they expected the competition to be better. After the first season the one of the teams, the Philadelphia Spinners split off and created the MLU. They have had a little more luck in attracting top talent. Both leagues have improved over the past couple of years and the best players in the nation (and Canada) are now scattered across the two leagues.

Thanks for the links. Ultimate is a good spectator sport too. I'm glad to see it getting more video play, on YouTube, and occasionally on TV.

I'm thinking about getting back into it with the local summer league this year. [Cool]

I'm a fan. Last year MLU really succeeded where AUDL failed in getting some of the top club players to play, which really made it a fun league to follow.

This year that's still the case on the East Coast, but it looks like AUDL on the West Coast has stepped up it's game a bit more. In fact, the entire AUDL has done a better job of getting an infusion of cash into the league.

Go Current!

Yeah the AUDL has managed to get some good talent on the West Coast. Most notably Beau Kittredge made the switch from MLU in San Francisco and brought a few top players with him.

I'm interested in the AUDL a bit more this year because Salt Lake City has a team now. I just moved away from the area but a lot of my friends that I've been playing with for the past 6 years are on the team.

Overall, MLU has in my opinion done a better job in getting the season games available on youtube, but hopefully AUDL will catch up.
