Everything was in its place. No dirty dishes in the sink, or anywhere else. The kitchen counter had clearly been wiped down. Coats hung on their hooks and shoes were calmly lined against the wall underneath. The whole house was like that. Not antiseptic or abnormally ordered. Simply clean, neat, with a place for everything. A pleasant place to be.
Only on entering the bedroom, where the bed was made and all the clothes were neatly folded, did he begin to suspect. The bathroom smelled of windex. The study finally gave it away. A file folder labeled ‘WILL’. Behind it, several folders bearing the names of financial institutions.
Then he understood why she had chosen a bridge. She could have used the beretta safely locked away in the utility closet. Or the exacto knife capped and stored in the top drawer of her desk. But in this lovely home, which had a place for everything, she had put everything in its place and found nowhere left for her.

I meant...is it a story idea, a snippet from a short story, novella, book or some such? What are your plans for this if any and why did you feel moved to share?

It's a story. There's nothing more to it. Have you ever heard of Lydia Davis? She's known for her short stories, many of which are very short. I've been thinking about her stuff lately.
Not to be morbid, but sometimes I think about what people would find if I were to die. I don't live near family or friends, so it's not as though they see me or my house on a regular basis. I think about whether I should be preemptively embarrassed about yesterday's clothes on the floor, last night's dishes in the sink, the dust bunnies under the couch, the piles of papers and memories I've never gotten around to sorting.
I liked what I wrote and wanted to share. So I posted it before I lost my nerve.

Well, if it makes any difference, I enjoyed it. I too often worry about what people will think if I die unexpectedly. Should I leave a note explaining my search history? What about the fact I have something like 17,000 e-mails I never bothered to delete? And my car's embarrassingly dirty.
