I am an avid science fiction and fantasy - specially dark fantasy- fan and I read a lot of comics. Besides OSC my favorites are Jack Vance, Neil Gaiman, Michael Moorcock, Ursula LeGuin, Alan Moore, Tolkien, P. K Dick, China Mieville, Tim Powers, Stephen King - especially Dark Tower series. Just curious to know.

Jack Vance is probably my favorite author. I have read so many of his books in the last years that I hardly can see myself without having reading these books.

Just have read Dawn from her, it was a recommendation of a member here. It was a very good book. I did not know OSC was fan of her works which is great.

I find that I cannot read more than three books by the same author in immediate succession. While reading the Ender- and Shadow-Series, I interspersed them with other books. I expected those to be easier on the mind - which is partly why I chose them - but I did not expect to be so disappointed by them, and I wonder whether I should not have read them at this point. For the same happened to me after I'd read Lord of the Rings: The other books just couldn't compare, and I was unable to appreciate them the way I might have at another time. It took me a while to 'recover'.
Have any of you had a similar experience?

I am definitely a binge reader. There are so many authors out there that are at best okay and at worst unreadable, that when I find one who I enjoy, I go after their work like crazy because.
My favorites are Madeleine L'Engle, Stephen King, and Isaac Asmiov. I also have a love/hate relationship with Robert Heinlein.

I recently came across Roger Zelazny. I believe he was a contemporary of Heinlein. His "Chronicles of Amber" are very interesting and thought provoking.
He also has an interesting and inspiring view on writing fiction which is worth reading.
I have a love/hate relationship with Theodore Sturgeon books. His books all have small jewels of light hidden inside an otherwise dark tale. In a way, this is similar to Ray Bradbury's books.
For example: "There, before you play a note, it is to be seen. Your feet planted so, to balance you when your music tilts the world. Your chest full like the beginning of a great voice which will be heard all over the earth. Throat, chin, belonging to the violin and it to you..." (28) The Cosmic Rape, Theodore Sturgeon
