I guess I’m sort of a control freak, but to write my landmark, I have to have it totally planned out, long in advance, with a new creative idea (last time it was a game), typed and ready, on a specific date with meaning to my hatrack existence, and post number. This means when I was getting close (1900) I looked at the date and decided 20 months a hatrack would be the perfect time to post my 2000 landmark, and though it had been done before, an interview would be creative, and allow others to know what they want to know. I put out a plea on my live journal and via email to many hatrackers I knew and trusted, to ask what they wanted to know about me, but if you think of something as you are reading, go ahead and ask.
What are you going to be when you grow up? Why? Is that what will make you truly happy? I currently am planning on being an elementary school teacher, teaching all basic subjects but focusing on arts and literature in my classroom. As a child, that was what I wanted to get away from, my mom is a teacher, all of her friends are, or are something close (professors, librarians, tutors), and obviously all my teachers were teachers, so it was everywhere, and everything, it was the if you can’t do job. But as I’ve gotten older, I’ve realized that teachers are the ones who make everyone, and I want to do that. Will it make me truly happy, it did when I was a cadet teacher, yes I still wanted to leave school and cry, I did, but that was the toughest part of high school, so it was tough. I do know the challenges going in, about to start the education program, and I’m fairly sure I’m up to them, but maybe not like I should be.
Where would you like to travel? When and with whom? I’m not very well traveled, to be honest, I’ve only been to one state west of the Mississippi, and I have never flown anywhere for a vacation. I hadn’t seen an ocean until my freshman year of high school. So I’ll list three trips I’d love to do. 1) A road trip with Blacwolve and a few other friends possibly to Washington DC, Virginia Beach, VA, and Chincoteague VA. I’ve been to all three of those places, but I felt I did the first two wrong, seeing the wrong things, at the wrong time of year, with the wrong people, the third, I loved, and was totally perfect so I need to share it with these friends. 2) California with my mom. She is much more traveled than I, but has never seen the Pacific ocean, or been to California. I would want to visit two of my closest friends who live there, but I have met (only one is even a crazy internet friend, but not a jatraquera). 3) Europe with my husband. No I don’t have a husband, or even a reasonable prospect. But it’s exactly how a honeymoon should be, with the perfect husband, you go and explore, then spend your nights, in the hotel, exploring a different way.
What is your favorite childhood memory? Favorites are hard, I had so many, my childhood was quite rich and exciting, or as exciting as it can be for someone who never really did that much out of the normal. The memory that means the most too me right now is building foam factories. When i was in pre school and day camp (at Hoosier Courts for anyone who might have heard of it) during the summers we made Foam Factories. We'd get into bathing suits or old clothes that could get wet, prepare a few holes in the sand box with extra pieces of dry wall, have all of our plastic rakes, shovels, and lots of pails ready for harvesting, and turn on the hoses. We'd make paths that would feed the water to specific area's in the sand box, then let it go. The result was this foamy substance, about the color of sand floating on top of the water, we'd then build dams to move the water away, spoon the foam into pails and buckets, with a bit of water. A few times we used food coloring to color the foam, I wrote a booklet about the foam for our teachers to understand the phenomenon, they still didn't, could care less. It was so cool, there were a few different consistencies one that looked like spider webs, one really thick one, and one that when you touched it powered away. I haven't done this in like 8 years, and only there, with that sand, but those sure were fond memories.
Who is the one person who has had the biggest impact on your life, and why? There have been many people in my life, the logical answer is automatically my mother, she’s made me who I am, in so many ways, giving me life, intelligence, a love of books and animals, and lots of other things. But that’s not who I would go with for this, why would I, it’s too easy. The first week of seventh grade, I went to dinner with my mom at some silly buffet place that has since closed. As we were sitting there discussing our days, I burst into tears about how evil my orchestra teacher was, and how I wanted to quit and take home ec (this is not a good thing for me to say, no one of any interest at my school took home ec). I probably said many hurtful things, but nothing that bad, it had only been a week, and I doubt we had played any hard music yet. Though who knows, that was the year of Hopak which we never could get rid of. A waitress, not even the one who had brought our drinks, came up and told me I was being very hurtful to her favorite teacher, and that I shouldn’t quit, she told me about the high school trips and opportunities. My mom then convinced me if I stuck it out a year I could quit if it were still awful. But I didn’t, I stuck it out two, all of middle school, then 4 more, high school, becoming one of the classroom assistants, and helping whenever I could. My mom was the booster president two years (see she really is uber mom). So the most influential person, the one who kept me from walking out of the class that I now consider my favorite, that changed my life in every way possible has no name, at least not one I know, but I do know that she quit, she was a senior my freshman year but had quit orchestra, for other things. Maybe it’s actually my orchestra teacher, or my mom, that made it ok, and made all of my friends I have today for me, made me go to Myrtle Beach, made me play, made me love it, but I don’t know, so I still attribute it to the girl who quit.
If you had the choice to live one year of your life over again (making whatever changes you like), which one would you choose? Or would you rather not change anything? I would relive and change the year from June 19th 2003, till June 19th 2004. I would have changed what colleges I applied to, who I flirted with, who I went to prom with, my water habits, so that I wouldn’t have gotten mono from a water bottle, and not seen the dying ducks on the freeway in Columbus, OH. These seem minor, but otherwise, it was a fantastic year, the last of high school.
Where do you see yourself in twenty years? Where, physically I have no clue, probably somewhere in the Midwest, but not this town, not likely even Indiana. But other than that, it would be 2025, I would be 39 years old, probably my kids will be in middle and high school, happy and hopefully involved with music and animals. My husband and I will be starting to think about empty nesting. I will still be teaching, most likely 4th or 5th grade in a public school, making sure my students learn skills needed in life, like how to sew on a button or make new friends. I will have a horse, and an Alpaca for yarn harvests. I will have a loom and a spinning wheel. My husband will still love me as unconditionally as he does before we are married, we will be the happiest of anytimes in our lives.
What do you want most out of life? Which part of me did you want to answer that, the silly little romantic girl, the career wise woman, the diva? I think they’ll all answer different things, and they’ve all got more going on in their parts of my mind than I do. Ok that sounded schizophrenic, which I’m not. I want to get somewhere, be loved and feel accomplished at something. I don’t know how to get there yet, I guess it’s a journey.
What's your dearest dream? I’m not sure how this was meant, so I’ll take it both ways. My dearest dream, as achievement, as “I have a Dream” MLK day type of thing is to create something that almost makes a public eye, whether it’s through my crafts or writing, or teaching, or something totally different, I would love to be known. But my dearest dream like Sarah thinks of weird things while she sleeps is Night of Dance 2017, a recurring dream I have named, where my friends and I go back to one of our favorite orchestra concerts, after not having seen each other for a while, we reminisce, and discuss our current lives, I’ve had this dream quite a few times, and every time I’ve been married to a different guy, yeah it probably proves I’m way too boy crazy but whatever it’s fun.
What is the thing (or person, or event) that makes you the most happy? And what makes you really miserable? The thing that makes me most happy is seeing a finished project, whether it’s homework, 4-H, knitting, or a school concert, that I’d put my heart into and finally it paid off with something I can share with people. The event that still makes me most miserable to think about is that first mess of posts I had here on hatrack, and what was going on in my life at the time. For those who remember my “prom mess” I’m sorry that it made it here, I’m sorry you had to think and post about it, no matter how you felt in the situation. I now feel much more comfortable in situations like those and hope another does not arise, I know my friends are sick of hearing about it, but it really was big.
What is your first memory, and how does recalling it make you feel? I have always said the first thing I remember is going with my mom on a home watch for a family who was in her Alzheimer’s support group. I forget if we were watching a man or a woman, but I know they were older than my grandma, who was in her late 70s, and about to go into a nursing home. I played with toys, I remember a coconut maraca. I don’t know that this is actually the first thing I remember, there could be something before that, but I don’t know what it would be. I must have been about two then.

Nice to know you better. I originally planned to become an English teacher, but life sometimes shifts in odd ways, changing where you end up. I still think it's one of the noblest, yet most underappreciated profession in the world.

Oh and thanks stryker, I think i basically said I would do prom differently in that sentence, but I'm not sure how differently, but it was fun if i think about it now, and I don't think I would have gotten rid of you.

Oh goodness! I had around 100 traditional scale horses (about nine inches tall) but at christmas I redid my room and gave 15 or so of those to the daughter of my childhood babysitter and the one who got me into horses (she's 3). I'm also starting to collect the smaller (3 inch) stablemate scale, and art pieces not produced by breyer. I have about 20 nice art oriented horses in stablemate scale, some produced by breyer, some produced by other companies, some original artwork.
