I said elsewhere in my reviews how much I like this story. It resonates with me because I'm in Steve's position-- the father of a child who is almost certainly going to die young.
This line from Margit Elland Schmitt's write up of Sparrowjunk really stuck out for me:

I recognized the desperation in Steve. That emotional resonance is what keeps me coming back to this story again and again.
