What is shadow puppets about? Does anybody know. Also what is your Fav Ender Book in the series so far?

I suggest you read it and find out. Like any good reader. If you asked me a year ago what my fav Ender book was, I'd say Ender's Shadow. But lately, Ender's Game has more appeal. I say a tie out of the two.

None of the Ender books come anywhere close to being my favorite.
MY favorites are Lost Boys, Enchantment, Hart's Hope, the two writing books, and strangely enough, The Abyss.

I think Xenocide just edges out Speaker for my favorite. The characters are just so marvelously out of control. Or seen another way, each of them thinks they are in control.

I am in love with the book Ender's Shadow, mostly becausem, even though Bean is not really as important in the whole scheme of things, i like him much more than Ender. I can relate to him, no matter how genetically altered he is. Ender is just much more personable, so he gets to be in charge of all the other books.

Xenocide was the best book. Take that however you like. It was the penultimate science fiction novel, or it was the peak of a writer before the downward spiral.

I have to say that Ender's Game is one of my all time favorite books ever. I would have to say that the last chapter of that book (the one titled Speaker for the Dead) is my absolute favorite piece of writing EVER.

I have to say (and I have read almost every book) That Shadow Puppets is my favorite. The sheer skill Card showed in retelling the ender story from another perspective and a much more mature Card made me love this book even more than the original
Just for kicks I read Game just before Shadow then the two alongside each other and I just think he nails the retell as good as he can.
I think he also paints a much darker version of Ender's world by telling about Beans much harsher upbringing. His tactics and skills were grown out of necessity as opposed to Enders grown out of manipulation.
Bean figues out he is being played in battle school long before ender does.
Finally my fiance baught me a signed first edition of the book for my 30th birthday. Ironically she forgot that she lost my own first edition loaned to her just weeks after it came out.
Shadow Puppets is the only item with an autograph I own. I never would have gotten it for myself but I guess this shows how much i love the book, that someone else who I turned onto Card got it for me.

Although I'm quick to say Ender's Game to be honest I treat the whole thing (even the shadow versions) like one juicy long book. It's hard to choose one because I need them all in order to make up the story. I need Bean's view because I really enjoy it and find him to be a fascinating character - he's got a *unique* origin. Right now Xenocide is highly enjoyable (on its repeat turn). If my words of praise aren't good enough its probably because I don't have the correct and worthy vocabulary to describe how much I love all these books and how they are written.

well, it sounds like I'm in the distinct minority but my favorite Card books are either Wyrms or Treason, and my favorite Ender book Xenocide. Don't ask me why but those are the ones I read over and over.

Oh, well if I get to list books outside of Ender/Bean I'd defintely put Wyrms in but to be honest I enjoyed all the OSC books I read like Songmaster, Treasure Box, and Homebody.
Although a while ago I got Lost Boys and haven't finished it because I think I'm a wuss and it seems like its going to get awfully scary.

I have to say that i uselly say Ender's Game for my fav. but i agree with ender_girl the whole series is really good and it's not the same with out all the books. As non-ender id say Prentice Alvin casue it's well writen and you get to see Alvin go from little or no control over his abilltiys to extrem control.

Glad to see I'm not the only one to put The Worthing Saga on their list. It's at the top of mine. The only problem is that the resolution of the first part of the book contradicts the message of every other part of the book - or so it seems to me.

It has got to be The Worthing Saga of course. I find many of the Tales of Capitol in their stand-alone capacity very thought - provoking.
Not to dismiss OSC but being a fan of Chronicles/sagas/trilogies -
Either of the Thomas Covenant Chronicles (though the first is obviously the better of the two and Yay to 'The Power that Preserves' as the best of the six).
And Peter F Hamilton's Nights Dawn Trilogy brought the style and 'sexuality' of sci-fi back into the hands of the British!

I'm partial to short stories, but I hate the fact that they're over so quickly, so Worthing Saga is perfect. Also I think short stories are better vehicles to present a point in, you can't really meander in them; you just have to go straight for it, without neglecting the writing or anythign else.

ender was what hooked me on card, i had read like 3 of the alvin books before, but they didnt really attract my attention enough to make card's name stand out to me. ender on the other hand i talked up and down for months after i read it. i have very little patience for reading things twice. i can count all the books ive reread on one hand. enders game ive read 3 times and only the tao te ching have i read more.

The Worthing Saga is one of the most powerful, philosophical literary pieces of our generation. Card brilliantly portrays the dawn of human civilization and presents both a new Genesis tale and an interpretation of God. Card subtly questions the meaning of religion on other planets. Do different commandments apply for every planet? Is God only a god to this planet? As a bonus, I resemble Doon to the extent that I frighten myself. Don't worry, you'll have time to say goodbye (you'll know what I mean if you've read the book).

I have found a familiar trend from the posts I have read and the people that I have discussed Card's books in, that the younger age groups tend to pull more strongly to Ender's Game and the Shadow series. However, I myself am a younger aged person but have greatly enjoyed the final three books. It troubles me that so many have not even read the sequels that in my mind are some of Card's best pieces such as Speaker and Xenocide. I enjoyed every book in the Game and Shadow series but the amount of thought and all the ideas behind the writing in the final three books(so far) of the Game series have made them some of my favorite pieces of writing. I am greatly anticipating the next novels in the Game & Shadow series. One of the reasons people have said that I enjoy Card so much is that he was one of the first Sci-Fi writers I have read but I have always felt that Card's writing calls to me. His writing combines war, history, in parts religion, romance, science, and mythology. In my mind, his books have everything that a great book should have and more. That is why in my mind Card has become so popular and one of my favorite writers of all time along with such great and Tolkien. I'd say that shadow puppets is the best of Card's works. peter finally becomes the man that will be hegemon and even though most of the focus of the story is on Bean it's peter's life that i want to hear about. His parents finally convince him that they're not as dumb as they'd previously convinced him.
Otherwise my favorite all time books are The Return of the King, Two Towers, and Fellowship. In that order.
