This is amazing! I never thought that OSC and his family would actually post on here. I know that I sound pathetic...but, it's true, I am !! *Breaks down and starts banging computer screen with clenched fists* No, I'm kidding, but still. I think that it's cool that Kristine Card posts as kacard. [Smile]

It IS kind of cool -- and it's certainly the case that the Cards are more involved in this website than many other authors. Note, though, that this isn't all THAT unusual in the science fiction genre; a lot of sci-fi authors -- like David Brin, Steve Brust, Tad Williams, and Stephen King -- are pretty involved on-line, too. A surprising number of 'em are normal people. *grin*

And apparently they DO delete posts that they feel get too off-topic or into areas they don't want posted? I ask because I KNOW I posted a question a few days ago, directed to a BlainN, concerning that users' post about differences between orthodox Mormonism, etc., but now those posts aren't anywhere. I did a search because I really wanted to see if there was an answer to my original post.

I truly didn't mean to offend anyone by asking the question - but apparently they thought that thread was saying too much?

I agree they totally have a right to moderate the forum since they own it, I was just surprised to see that particular topic gone.

Farmgirl, another possibility is that the person who started the thread may have deleted the first post -- which deletes the entire thread.

Edit: actually, I think you meant this thread: http://www.hatrack.com/ubb/cgi/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=1;t=001924;p=3#000124

I have noticed that the shizzolator thread has disapeared. But I think that was the Moderator saying (and likely correctly) "All right, that's enough! Everyone out of the pool!"

It is cool that the Cards look in, after all, they are our hosts.

But who wouldn't want to look in on Hatrack. Despite the fluff (which I enjoy), there is some good writing here.

Nice Topic weiczorek! And welcome to both you and Farmgirl. [Smile]

Thanks, Rivka!
I had done a search of all posts by ME, and it found the one in that same thread I posted earlier -- I just didn't scroll down and realize I had posted twice in that thread! My mistake! I thought I had asked that in a different thread.

Great forum, this is!

Hatrack really is great. I've been trying to work on school stuff, but I keep getting drawn to this forum...ah well, a little procrastination never killed anybody. Or was that curiosity???

No, curiosity definitely killed a cat. Though satisfaction brought it back so maybe that doesn't count. I never heard of it killing any people though so I guess it's a moot point. (I love that phrase. Or in Joey's words, a moo point. It's like a cow's opinion. It's moo.)
I also have to agree that this site is awsome. [Hail] It's a good thing I haven't been given much school stuff yet because it definitely wouldn't get done! I'm so glad I finally wandered over to this part of the site. [Big Grin]

I have still found myself submitting to the lowliness of procrastination, but alas! How can one help but be drawn to the almighty hatrack?? [Hail] I like that smilie... [Big Grin]

She was. She has enough "attractive" for all of us.

Ralphie, what do you mean by "we're also incredibly attractive" ? To whom are you refering? I am so easily confused...

wieczorek - I'd say I was just kidding, but the truth is Hatrack is made up of some pretty foxy people.

Since you don't get out of the OSC side much and visit the "American Culture" side, you probably haven't seen the thread which links you to Hatrack's photo album.

I'm telling you, some of Hatrack is HOT HOT HOT. Heck all of Hatrack is HOT HOT HOT. [Cool]

Pod, like you and Jaids aren't the hottest couple at Hatrack. You and she both look unbelievable in black and white photos. Y'all should take a b&w photo together and post it. (hint, hint.)

I am a tad baffled why my girlfriend and i have been flatteringly, though randomly inserted into this discussion.

As for when we'll both be showing up in the same black & white photos, i'll have my people talk with her people to see when our schedules are free to meet with my photographer. Unfortunately, from what i recollect, it may be december, or thanksgiving before our demanding schedules will allow us the luxury.

There needs to be an elitist smilie. heh.

I know a lot of authors participate in online communities, but it was never any author I really cared about. 'tis pretty awesome.

pod, [Embarrassed] it was because I wrote that last night after taking both antihistemines and nighttime meds. So, basically, I was stoned and for some reason, thought Papa Moose was you. They both begin with a p? I don't know. I really shouldn't post after taking medication. [Smile]

I had been wondering, Kayla, but I'm honored to be confused with Pod. I've always thought and said the same about him and Jaiden, too -- since before they were dating, in fact.

Has anyone gotten an e-mail from OSC? Whether you e-mailed him first or he e-mailed you, I'm curious to know. Thank you!! Hey, there should be a "curious" smilie. Hehe...

Didn't we already discuss this? I have a slew of them from him. [Razz] Jealous?

Okay, only 4 actually. But a slew from Mrs. Card. Well, okay, only 9. But it's still more than I've ever gotten from Geoff, which is a great big fat zero. [Frown] One of these days, I tell you. [Wink]

Jealous I am not, Kayla. I received an e-mail from the Almighty OSC [Hail] (if you read a past post of mine, some where in the inner-depths of hatrack, you will see why I did that) a few days ago concerning the e-mail I sent to him. Not that I'm bragging , or anything, but, considering that you said yours said, "Thanks, I'll change it.", mine was 7 lines long... [Big Grin] [Razz] [Razz] [Taunt]
Hail the Almighty OSC [Hail] May I forever serve you dutifully as a faithful worshipper who was brought from the dark corner of life without sci-fi with the reading of EG!!!
[Smile]
*Edited b/c I forgot to put a "hailing" smilie by Almighty OSC [Hail]

I'm sure OSC appreciates your devotion.

I recommend finding out where he lives and driving by his house at night, slowly, with your head-lights turned off. He'd love it.

I thought one of my posts had been deleted, but it turned out I had posted it in the wrong topic. It looked horrible where it was, since it was originally meant to go in the "out of context" thread.

just out of curiosity, who are the members of the family so i know when they post?

Posted by wieczorek (Member # 5565) on :

Ralphie, I've got half of the info I need: He lives in Greensboro, NC...yep, that's half. Okay, so, somebody finds his address and we'll all ride infront of his house (really slow, with no headlights) so that he can see how dedicated we are!! Well, that might not be a good idea... I think we might be charged with some kind of stalking felony - they have crazy rules these days!!!!! Ah well...but we could all tell our teachers or people we work with that we missed a day because it was for a religious holiday... hail the Almighty OSC [Hail] !!!!!

electron (I know I'm not spelling it like your sn), I like that!! OSC's wife... hail the Almighty OSC [Hail] !!!!! Anywho, his wife posts as kacard , his son, Geoff, posts as Geoffrey Card , and OSC... hail the Almighty OSC [Hail] !!!!! posts as Orson Scott Card.

Interesting topic, wieczy.
It really is nice to know that your favorite author is also an actual real-life person too. As far as the people who actually post here, they seem to be pretty cool, though I'm really new to this forum myself. Mostly I lurk, because I don't have much free time and my typing speed is atrociously slow.
As for getting emails from OSC, I got one a few years ago in response to a question my then-roommate (also an OSC fan) had. I've also met him and some of his family when I was in North Carolina over the last 3 months, which was nice. And the coolest thing by far is I had my name mentioned in one of his recent Uncle Orson Reviews Everything columns. That was totally radical, man.

Posted by wieczorek (Member # 5565) on :

Wow, so where did you meet him at? That's very cool. All that I know is that I could have stopped down and said, "HI!!!" when I was on my way to Florida for vacation over the summer, but I hadn't thought of it... so unfortunate really... that would be an interesting vacation. "Where did you go?" "Greensboro, NC, to see the Almighty OSC [Hail] !!" I bet that not one person I know would have a clue about what I meant by saying that. That's the most unfortunate thing, right there, though... [Frown]
