why wouldn't the lustanians (in xenocide) be aloud to leave? They know how to get rid of all the disclodia don't they? Because they do that to planter! So why can't they get rid of it before they leave? I must not be getting something...please inlighten me.

Plot develpoment.

[Roll Eyes] Not quite. They don't know how to get rid of the descolada; just how to neutralize it. This has to be done to EACH PERSON AND ANIMAL who is exposed!

Allowing any of the Lusitanians to leave would have been a death sentence to almost all who were exposed to them.

but when planter died he didnt have ANY descolada in him. i dont think it was just neutralized.
couldn't they do that to humans?

The descolada destroys nearly all life forms besides the ones that are able to adapt.

Starways Congress wouldn't want them to leave because one person carrying the descolada could wipe out an entire ecosystem. That alone would require them to stay on Lusitania.

They have ways of killing the descolada, but the ecosystem on Lusitania incorporated the descolada into all of their basic functions. Killing the descolada would mean killing all the organisms on the world.

SPOILERS FOR CHILDREN OF THE MIND!

Ela made the Recolada in Outside space. It carries out all the functions that the descolada does, but with all the infectious and hazardous properties cut out.

Does that help?

When they disabled the Descolada, they had no way of telling Starways Congress, as they had cut off their ansible connection.

At the time the fleet was deployed, the Descolada could have wiped out entire planets.

about the descolada:
do (or will )we ever find out who created it?
in children of the mind young val and miro are searching for more planets with a similar virus(or at least thats what I remember)will they find the creators of these viruses? [Dont Know]

I kind of hope not. I feel like there's been too big of a gap (in our time) for a conitunation of that series to be written. I know about the linking novel between that series and the shadow series, but that's a little different, as the shadow series is still pretty current and the voice in which it's written will be familiar.

That might not make sense. It's 5:00am. [Big Grin]

Like I said, plot developement.

Okay, they CAN destroy the disclodia virus. They can destroy it. However for four reasons, they cannot be let off the planet.

One, practicallity. It took several days to remove all the disclodia virus fron the system of planter. That would probally cost quite a bit. Not to mention, Starways congress would be afraid that the virus was just lying dormant.

Two, lack of communication. The ansible connection is gone, at least to the starways congress. They could not tell the cangress that they could remove the virus.

Third, a continuation of two, because I wanted to type more, Jane would be exposed. They cut off the ansible, right? No, they did not. Jane was hiding it from the congress. They could not have doen such a thing with out jane, and as far as congress knows, that program is dead.

And four, No one wants to leave. They are all perfectly happy where they are. The only reason that htey left, is because they though the planet was going to be destroyed. Of not for that, they would have stade, mainly because their lives were there, and the problems of relitivistic flight would be too much for some people to bare (emotionally). It is like a small town, everyone talks about leaving, but no one ever really wants out.

This could be another interesting twist to the next book, if the descolada had launched a probe with the descolada upgrade necessary to meld humans with Amaranth or potatoes. And because the Lusitanians are Catholic, if even one cell has been affected they will not support eradicating it.

That is what I was saying in my "what next" thread, before it horrible degraded into a discussion about favorite subjects. However, do not comment on that last part, for I do not want to be responsible for the degradation of this thread.

Somebody hijacked your thread?!?!? [Grumble] [Eek!]

Doesn't it make you want to ===> [Wall Bash]

Oh my. Somebody better tell the moderator!!!!

[Evil Laugh] [Wink]

Thread hijacking is a part of Hatrack. If you don't like it, too bad. [Taunt] You can't stop it.

Heck, even I'm hijacking this thread to talk about hijacking. [Smile]

Just be thankful anyone is replying at all [Smile] . The more thought you put into your thread, the less likely anyone will want to add anything. Alternately, it can stay on topic but everyone is disagreeing head on with you. My highest posting threads have been deplorable fluff on the other side.

(routs thread to... does this say New Jersey or New Orleans?)

Also, if you gave your thread a salient and clear title, other people might actually act to keep it on track for you.

As Far as the clear subject line goes, I don't want to be too specific in it. I would like people to not see it and say, I don't care. I wnat them to say, "what is next? next afret what? lets see."

-Obviously that did not happen, I am W-

Yes. Lets.
