Boarded a ship andleft for a new planet..and we never heard from him again...what would u say is his best piece of work..that he will be rembered for?

I would definitely have to say Homecoming. The Ender books are second, then the Alvin books. I would have to say that I think the Shadow books would be on the bottom of that list. The Shadow books were good, and very readable, but they are not what I have come to expect from the man who wrote such wonderful books as Songmaster and The Ships of Earth. I rather enjoyed Wyrms a lot too.

I would have to read everything he's written in order to answer that, and while I've read a lot, I haven't come close to everything.

Or you could be like many here that are thirsting for more of his writing. I've must have read everything 3 times by now. Except for the Ender Books and Homecoming. Those are like 10 times each. [Big Grin]

If I were boarding a ship and could only take one OSC book with me, it would probably be Xenocide . My reason why is the development of the idea of aiuas and the consideration of sentience.

The shadow was DIFFERENT from his other works....

The book he would most be remembered for is obviously Ender's Game. Whether it's actually his best book or not, it is his most famous. It's the only book of his I heard about before I actually started reading his work.

I loved his independent books. Homebody, Enchantment, Stone Tables, and Treasure Box.

Oh, and Lovelock was great.

I would have to say that the Enders Game Short Story would be the best, because it is in the more difficult format and it is a science fiction landmark that opened Sci fi up to all the non hard science types and forsaw the time when reflexes and computer skill and multitasking would be more important then muscle in gaining victory.

Wow! This is hard.

I want to say Pastwatch; but it was Ender's Game that originally drew me to his works, so it is pretty high up there. And I loved Ender's Shadow, although I don't know if I would have liked it so much if I hadn't already read the whole Ender series..

I've looked everywhere for Treason (I know it's out of print; that's why I cruise used book stores) and i can't find it to buy. I read it once and it's one of my favorites.

I'm tempted to steal it from the library and pay the fine . . . [Wink]

Seventh Son drew me in to the rest of the Alvin Maker series, but when I picked up Ender's Game, that caused me to start looking for anything else with OSC's name on it.

Lost Boys was pretty good, but a little too heavy on the Mormonism for my tastes. Card's religion is evident in most of his writing, and I don't mind it overall, but I don't care to be beaten about the head and shoulders with it.

Mmmm. you're right, this IS hard. I believe that his most memorable, and his best work is in Ender's Game AND Speaker for the Dead. I don't think you can separate the two and SFTD, in my humble opinion, is the best book he's ever written.

But, if I had to choose only one book to take with me...it would probably be Enchantment. [Big Grin]

(I'm with you Nick on the Homecoming series...but I would probably only pick Earthborn. And out of the Alvin series...I'd probably pick Prentice Alvin.)
