I think that in the upcoming move, it would be cool if Peter and Ender's Sister create a new type of debate forum, and this is how peter rises to power. It would be kind of like the book, David's Sling. However Peter could create an algorithm that ranks ideas like google ranks web pages.

An explanation of what I am talking about can be found at:

I guess the important thing would not be to invent it, but to attach one's self to the idea and get credit for it. But I don't think the details of Peter and Val's rise to power is going to be nearly as central in the movie as it is in the book. At least, that's what I recall.

Seldom is the best way to do things the most popular.

Yeah, I can't imagine they'd have time to focus much on Peter and Valentine.

By the way, welcome, mike laub! [Smile]

It would not surprise me if Ender is an only child in the movie.

From what I have heard he will be a third and it is possible that the abilities of Peter and Valentine might be known, but the whole sub plot with those two will be gone.

But to have Ender you need Peter and Val, just like the Hegemony needs the Triumvirate. Peter and Val are parts of Ender's personality…extremes of both sides. Besides, how can you have a sequel without Peter the Hegemon? Isn't the Starway Congress and the Speakers for the Dead an offspring of Peter as Hegemon?

All I can say to that, telp, is that you can't put everything in a movie. While understanding Ender's perception of Peter and Val are essential to understanding Ender, it's hard to convey that sort of thing on film. You dont' get to understand the motivations in movies like you do in books. You mostly just get to see what happens. And to see what happens in battle school, you don't need to see Peter and Val.

I agree that not everything in the novel can fit into the movie.

But then they will have to leave it standing at the point after the final fight of the Third Invasion, unless we have just a small mention about them.

Telp

To paraphrase the Dread Pirate Roberts, learn to live with disappointment.

Val and Peter are out of the movie in any significant form. This will be an adaptation of the book, not a literal translation. It will be done and is being done with the approval of the author, since he is writing the first version of the screenplay. I would guess that Major Anderson and Col. Graff will probably be combined into one character.
