And so am I. I come from Poland, and I see I'm not the only one.
A lot of Poles read OSC books. There are some reasons of that. Firstly- we are, I mean, Poles, in our opinion not respected enough:) And every time we are mentioned in a book or a movie we watch it and we like it. And we're proud of it. If there is a reason to be proud of course. And I spose that the fact that Ender's Father was a Pole (Jan Pawel Wieczorek) is a good reason to be proud. That's how most of Poles think. In my opinion OSC mentioned our small poor state only because we're bealived to be very religious. Which is, by the way, true.
Secondly young people in Poland love science fiction, as well as fantasy. We have some great writers (you might've heard about Stanislav Lem and Andrew Sapkowski). And we love you Americans. For you have and you are, what we would love to have and be- you are rich, you have great power, respect and justice. We used to have that- not any more.
I have never heard about OSC neither in TV nor radio. He was mentioned in some magazines, when a short story "The boy from Poland" was added extra to "Ender's Game" book. And there's a big shelf of his books in every bigger bookshop. I have not heard of OSC until I read "EG" (which took me no more than 3 hours BTW) His only adv in Poland are people like me. Walking and talking and saying that he is really good. Most of people never heard of neither HUGO nor NEBULA.
And I am stubbornly waithing for the "EG" Movie!

hi, Szymon ! Happy to read another European. I'm French as I have writen before. The reason I like OSC's books are a few different than you.

First, I like it because of the youth of Ender or Bean with a so fantastic inteligence. But they are also alone children, without parents. It's the warrior's solitude.

Secondly, I like strategy games and stories about complots. Ender's game is full of that.

And finally, OSC have a really pleasant and dynamic style. Cela se boit comme du petit lait !
(translation : This is drinking like "little milk" I don't know the exact translation of this common french expression. So i litterally translate it)

Oh, you see my European mate, how very funny the Americans are? I've been to USA once, you know. Boston MA. But than, everyone seemed to be a bit more, what we'd call: sophisticated:) And had a bit different sense of humor. But than, not every American is Ender Wiggin, arent I right?
I just wondered, how is the "Shadow puppets" book translated into french? For our transaltion is not exactly literal: "Teatr Cieni", meaning "The theater of shadows".
I have been to Paris too:) My favorite place is Luxemburg Park - they sell magnificent croissants there:) Actually, have you read the whole Ender saga? Which books your favorite?
My friends like OSC, but they say he's got nothing to do with science in his fiction. There is some truth in it, isnt it? I mean, he never describes the starships, doesnt explain the effect of the interstar jump (Park). Even the explanation of ansibl phenomenon is rather spiritual and philosophical than scientific.

hi from Australia!

but i cant get the books real well...i swear, there were only three OSC books, one copy each, on the very bottom shelf and in the very corner of one of the "popular" bookshops!

they are worth so much more than that, should be in fromt of the shop!

anyway i like them because they really suck me into the plot and i love the writing style and the theme and the plot and...and...everything!

Luxembourg park is very beautiful, right ! Moreover, We have some chess table in a corner of it. Many players go here.

The translation in french are good. few details are lightly different because of untranslatables expressions (i hope this is the good word ) I read all the Ender's saga and all the Shadow's saga published. My favorites are Ender's Game and Ender's shadow together. I love the difference between the two stories. It's the point of view of the same acts by two characters. I remember the passage where Ender make a joke to his dragon army and the Bean's perseption. Do you remmember ? About the to go toilets.

I like the philotic idea too. But i don't think the link between 2 persons is single. Or the perseption of this link may be different. Exemple : Achille love Petra But Petra hate Achille. It's a good way of research... metaphysic research.

Just didnt quite understand what you mean by 'I'm polish but not exactly' thing. I just took it for/as? an insult. I am not too good in english, so please dont look at my mistakes.

And now Luxemburg park:) I lived on rue Madame, just a few streets from it. I remember there's a great pond and many remotly controled (?) ships on it. It was fun to steer them. And there used to be a great world map lying on the ground and you could just walk on it and watch photos from each place.

Tell me please, Americans, what is wrong in the fact that I'm Polish. I could've written that I'm Spanish and be sure to avoid nationalist comments. I that Poles are thought to be stupid, poor, disgusting, dirty. I wish we had a better opinion. But than it is not exactly our fault. It wasn't us who attacked Germans in september 39' but them. It wasnt us cho broke all the alliances and dropped leaflets on Berlin instead of bombs, as the British did. It was 10 000 000 of us, who were killed. It was us, who lived for over 50 years beyond the Iron Curtain. And how come are we supposed to be rich?

Calm down. You're among friendly people here. Nothing is wrong with the fact you're Polish. And nothing should be wrong with the fact they are American.

I just wondered, is there anyone who lives in Boston? If yes, please tell me, can you still by chicken teryiaki in Back Bay, by the prudential center?
I read somewhere that Orson wrote the Insult Game for Monkey Island: The Curse of Monkey Island. Is thet true? I think the game is simply awsome. If true It'd make me like him even more;)

I dont have Net at my place for it broke down so I have little time on my breaks in school. So I'm firing my questions away;)

I dont remember too well actually. It was in this Prudential Center mall. There's hall with many small restaurants (Italian, Chinese, Japanese and so on). I somply loved chicken Teriyaki. And it was cheap;)
I agree with you, Choobak, and I understand you, DungeonMaster. Though with some effort:). It is quite boring if you dont like adventure games. An thank you, Noemon.

And a closing question, for I gotta split- haven't you wondered why all of Bugger Queens left for their homeland? What for? I mean, they could control all their workers simultanously in no time. So why endanger them? In the first and second Invasions Queen was indispencible to reproduct.
