Personally I was not at all taken aback by Petra and Peter's marriage, because even before reading SOTG, I was wondering about when Peter gets "old" and has his talk with Ender, if he had ever gotten married by that time or anything. So as I was reading, from close to the beginning of the book I could see the foreshadowing that Peter and Petra would end up together. And I actually felt like I accepted their relationship more so than Bean and Petra's for two reasons:

1. Peter and Petra's wasn't told in detail, only hinted at and then fast-forwarded. Bean's and Petra's was described in a manner that made it seem like their pre-marital relationship was narrarated in complete detail, and to me it just wasn't enough to believe there was anything significant there more than two teenagers who have been in and out of danger together and spent a lot of personal time with each other.
2. Their relationship felt more tied to the plot than it did to their characters. I don't know exactly what I mean by this, but that's what I felt.

I was much relieved to find that in SOTG, Bean and Petra's relationship was less specific except regarding certain issues, and so I could fill in details myself more.

In the Barnes and Noble University online reading group for SotG, a number of people have asked that same question, and think the answer is yes. OSC is planning a book between SotG and Speaker, titled Ender in Exile, which will feature Ender and Achilles II. Bean and his crew will be in another novel, which will take place after Children of the Mind. There is also the possibility of a prequel with Mazer. Search these forums though, because I know this has been discussed in more detail in the last few days.
