I'm looking for a quote from the Alvin Maker series. I think it's in Red Prophet but I can't seem to find it.
The Quote goes something like this.

"When both sides know that the other is lying it comes powerfully close to telling te truth"

I would be very appreciative of any help that you could give in fining this quote.
Thanks

how about the start of ender's game,

"this won't hurt a bit"
the grown up was lying, they always said it won't hurt when it would. sometimes lies are more dependable than the truth.

not helpful. i know the quote you are referring to, it's the alvin series but i can't remember what book. i don't have the books at my house right now, just moved. but an excuse to by an alvin book i need to reread the series anyway.

Yeah I thought of that one first but I like the Alvin one better. I'm still looking. Thank you for your help.

Hooch. Lemme go get my copy.

First chapter. Bottom of page 21 in my paperback copy:
quote:
But no, Harrison knew he and Ta-Kumsaw was lying to each other; and it came into Hooch's mind that when both parties are lying and they both know the other party's lying, it comes powerful close to being the same as telling the truth.

Now isn't that knowing the books! I reread the series last month and maybe its just when you read them too fast that they start to blur. Good ol' Hooch the spark.

I'm embarrassed that I forgot I had written that idea in Ender's Game when it popped into Hooch's (and my) mind in Red Prophet.

Oh, well. As I often say, I only know about five things, so I'm bound to repeat myself or have to start lying.

That's OK, because just as long as we know you're lying... [Wink]
