After trying to get someone to read any OSC book for 2 years now, I finally got someone to read Ender's Game. It took him at least 6 months to get through it. He did like it, which is good, but he thinks that it is a really generic story that's not too special. I wouldn't mind him thinking this, I mean it's his own opinion, but it still annoys me that he likes the books based on Halo more. Oh well, at least I introduced someone to my favorite writer.

Thanks for sharing my stories with a friend. But you can lead a horse to water ...

Think of it this way: Maybe the fact that he's devoted to books based on a videogame suggests that he is not yet at a point in his life where serious fiction is going to have much impact on him. What he's looking for is books that will immerse him further in the game world that he loves. Ender's Game won't do that, so he doesn't care. Cool! Let him have whatever fiction he's hungry for.

Meanwhile, you have struggled valiantly to increase the audience for my books - and I am grateful to you.

Yeah, I understand. I don't think I'll let him borrow any of the other Ender's series books, though. I fear I'll never see them again.

I gave my best friend my copy of Ender's Game last.. June I think it was. He's still on page like 20. He doesn't like to read.... Well- the good news is that he lives real close to me and I can get it back any time I want....

I'm exactly the opposite. The few times I've lent someone a book I got it back pretty quickly. I lent Shadow Puppets to my brother's best friend, and got it back the same day. They were going on a short car trip and he read it then. (I of course hate him for his supperior reading capabilites.)
I'm ashamed to say it, but I'm the kind of guy who should never be lent a book. My own books I'm not careful with, and no harm will come to them. I'm extra careful with other peoples books, so bad things will always happen to them.

I've bought at least 30 paperback copies of EG... I keep loaning them out, but then they don't get returned. I put the following inside the cover of each of them: "This book belongs to (my name). Please return it when you're done. If, for whatever reason, you feel you can't return it, at least pass it on to someone else. Don't hoard it!"

One day, I'll buy hardcover copies of all my favorite books. Until then, I'll just keep replacing it every time I want to read it. [Big Grin]

I gave my son a copy of Ender's Game when he was 13 and he instantly became an OSC fan. Now my daughter is 13 and it's deja vu all over again.

I also "lend" out EG a lot and, like another poster here, actually increase the sales of that book since I rarely get it back!

I've only had one person not like it. I always tell people, "If you get to about page 40, you won't want to put it down." Well, the one person who didn't care for it never got halfway to that point!

I personally know about Mr. Card from my sister, sho knew kim from her boyfriend, who knew it from his father:) I remember, it was July 2001 , when I began to EG. I took it from my sisters bookshelf, but I had to fpu it back for I was leaving for USA. I managed to read only two chapters. I was so hungry for more, that the first thing I did in Boston was going by 36 bus from Dedham to Forest Hills, then by subway to Backbay, than upstairs in prudential center and to a little bookshop. It was so small, but there was a whole shelf of Mr. Card's output. Very pleasant memories, I must say. I love US sice then, and I do my best to get back there. Last year I didnt manage to, for I promised my girlfriend to go to UK. I betrayed US [Wink]

I've been nearly entirely unsuccesful in recruiting OSC readers. I've gotten my mom to read Ender's Game, and almost got my dad to read it. None of my friends want to read it. I almost got my Advanced Reading teacher to read Ender's Game. But I guess I'm not very persuasive. [Dont Know]

I can't even *count* how many paperback copies of EG I've bought over the years. I either give them away, loan them out (never to be seen again) or my family and friends come over and snitch them because they've lent their OWN copies out.

Oh well - at least I'm spending my money on something worthwhile!!

I share the joy of Ender with anyone that will listen. I got my schools drama teacher and director of all the plays to read EG. In return she had me read stranger in a strange land. It was good.

I'v gotten around 5 friends hooked on the Ender series. But it's sooo furstriating because they are slow readers and I'm fast and alreday finsihed the books.. [Wall Bash]

But it's still cool for them to be reading it. I actully got one to be really obsessed. He's on this website I think.
