Does anyone else ever daydream about books you read...either adding other events and continuing the story, or putting yourself in as a character? I guess sort of like fan fiction...but only in your head (I have never understood why people took to the time to actually write out a story that isn't really theirs).
I've actually done that quite a bit with the Alvin Maker books...thinking about what it would be like to be in their world with them.
I've also done that with Enchantment as well. Man, how I wish there were more books in the Enchantment world.
Though, I think the author I have done that the most with is Jordan. Maybe since he is more of a world builder anyway adding more to his story seems to fit. I have invented an entire new race of people that interact in the Jordan world in my daydreams. I guess it seems rather silly...but it can be fun to let your mind wander in another world sometimes. Yes, all the time. When I was in middle school, I did write fanfiction, because I liked to pick up where I left off and I couldn't do that unless I knew exactly where I left off. Now, I've backed off the fanfiction thing (though I still read it occasionally... only the parodies, because they're always good for a laugh or three) and I've started writing my own stuff. I still live in other worlds, though, some of which are mine, others that aren't.
Funny, I don't think I ever read any OSC fanfiction, not even parodies. Guess it never occured to me to look for it--usually I go for the movies...

I've imagined myself in books, but I'm so much cooler in my imagination. Then I end up runing the story, so I feel bad.

during middle school when I first Read Ender's Game I wrote a short story/fan fic of myself at battle school(Of course part of dragon army!) for one of my classes. So yeah, it happens.

This happens a lot with me, with books with well developed characters, or books that just have so much potential in the settings. Books like the Ender series especially, that's why I like them so well. I'll have to be honest and say that I've never read any Orson Scott Card books besides all the Ender related ones. But the Ender ones are so enjoyable, just because the characters can evolve so much farther than what is written in the book. For example, I could (and I bet you could to) plug Ender (or Bean for that matter) into almost any situation I could think of, and I could guess what he would do. When you have characters like that in books, you know that it's a not just a story, but a whole expanding universe of possibilities.
However, I don't tend to imagine myself in these situations, since these are character based books, I would tend to do that sort of thing more often with setting based storys, IE Starwars-esque kind of storys.
OSC's writing is great, and quite unique, it tends to spawn different daydreams and situations in my mind without purposefully trying to do so.
Does he develop these in depth character based storys for most of his books?

Oh, of course! How can you really get into a book otherwise? Having daydreams about the book is just an extension of what you're already doing.

When I'm reading a book for the first time I tend to dream in that world. I'll wake up with vague memories of the characters in various situations. Sometimes I'm there too, or sometimes I'm some weird combination of characters.

I put myself in a lot of stories, but not with Card books. Every one of his characters (or at least, the "nice" ones) are either too smart, too good, or just..too [insert desirable characteristic here] for me to feel comfortable being personally involved. Out of my league, so to speak. I love the characters and everything they do, but I am more of a fly-on-the-wall kinda person than one who puts themself in the action.
What I do a lot more of is make up alternate plots, problems, people and add them in to see what would happen. Somewhat like a science experiment with lots of variables.

when i read books that i really like (like the EG books) i always daydream about seeing that book as a movie, what the movie would be like. i even seem to make up my own previews for it. does anyone else do stuff like this?
