Ok, I just polished off the Ender Saga, and I noticed this little cliff hanger deal, where Card seemes to have not mentioned the fate of the Desoladores........Anyone else notice that? Am I missing something? Do they make apperances in other books? Why would he just leave the series with a million stones unturnt, a million questiones still posed? Can anyone point me in the right frame of mind...?

And if you'd look around the forums for a bit you'll find out there are two book in the works. One set before Speaker of the dead (Ender in Exile) and one after Children of the Mind (Shadows in Flight).

The descolada was replaced, the Descoladores is the race of beings that created it.

As for leaving the Descoladores open to mystery, why does it need to have any resolution to be a satisfying story? I'd be fine if that was actually the end of the entire series.

I thought leaving the Descoladores a mystery was kind of neat way to end the series, showing that there ARE other alien races that will be encountered after the end of the book. Just like the moral of The Neverending Story : Books end but their stories don't.

Then again, finding out about them will have its own charm.

There are actually three books in the works. Christmas at Battle School should be out by the end of the year. He's also apparently working on a Mazer short story.

You mean ... you didn't GET it? How obvious do I have to be? Sheeeesh.

That was just cruel of me. I'm so sorry.

No, it doesn't end. I got tired of writing, so I just stopped, sent it in, and told the editor it was "art" and that intimidated everybody at Tor Books so much they didn't dare question the fact that it didn't seem to end.

I thought for sure I'd be short-listed for the Booker.

OK, that's a lie, too. I thought all the storylines that mattered, ended. As for the descoladores, either they were raman or varelse. And it would have been flipping a coin for me at that point. All the interesting ethical dilemmas had already been addressed and solved, I thought.

But that was a few months ago, and now I'm starting to create Shadows in Flight in my tiny mind. We'll see if I find a satisfactory ending for the Descoladores in that book.

Oooh - I liked the "art" and "intimidation" theme. Write a story about lying to the publishing companies and getting away with it. Tie it in to - oh let's say - rice production in China and talking kitty cats that are from Mars, or something absurd. Really!

Wait...you mean Christmas at Battle School is a real book? I thought it was like some kind of joke. Is it a short story? So we've got:

Christmas at Battle School
Mazer short story
Ender in Exile
Shadows in Flight

Or am I wrong? (which happens painfully too often)

And I thought Shadows in Flight was supposed to connect the 2 quartets and keep the series from becoming too bulky? Not that I'm complaining...but when a series becomes too long it tends to get a little...I don't know...too long.

This is so confusing! Even the order of the books in the 'Other Books by Orson Scott Card' section of 'Shadow of the Giant' is different(now its chronological instead of in order of when it was published)

And someone please explain why First Meetings isn't in that list.

And while I'm ranting, will the Mazer short story be published alone or...what?

How would First meeting even fit? Two of the stories happen before Ender's game, One is the short story version of Ender's Game and one story that takes place after Ender's game but before Speaker of the Dead.

First Meetings likely isn't on the list because it is not a book, it is a collection of short stories. And I assume that short stories are not considered in the category of "Other Books"-- I don't recall seeing any others on the list.

Maps in a Mirror are collections of short stories and they are listed.

Good point. But those were rather substantial collections.
