I was at the library today, and saw this book in the line of OSC books...and thought I'd try it out.

I was just curious if anyone else had read it...I had never even heard about it until I saw it today.

Great book about post-apocolyptic mormon-americans trying to rebuild civilization. It's actually a collection of short stories set in the same universe. I really enjoyed it. This is a book about mormon characters, so if you don't have experience with the culture you might have questions. But the characters are wonderful even without knowing anything about the LDS church or its history.

My absolute favorite short story is in that book.

Pageant Wagon.

Very moving. Articulated to me a great deal I subconsciousnly had always believed.

America is also quite interesting, as is the first short story about the trip west (forgot the name.)

ps: not LDS, but had no problem

quick, fairly somber
still the same great character writing we've all come to expect from OSC

Personally, I did not like that book at all. It had nothing to do with the writing style or anything of that sort, but the story just did not sit right with me. It felt wrong somehow and left me with a bad taste. However I have heard many people say they like it.

I really love it, at least two of the stories. I'm ambiguous about the others; they are really well-written, but make me a little uncomfortable thinking about them sometimes. Just the funny... taste, as socal_chic said, although I wasn't that bothered by it; I still read it regularly. In fact, it lives in the car for when I'm unexpectedly stuck somewhere and need something to read (and am not in the mood for the Book of Mormon or am too tired to concentrate on it.)
