NOOO! don't remind the developers! they'll smell money again!

What's funny is there is a certain truth to it. Let's just hope Electronic Mone-- er, Arts dosen't gets their hands on it. They recently bought out the developers of my favorit game series, (Battlefield) so that one's a wash after the very promicing Battlefield 2 hits shelves next month. [Roll Eyes]

*sigh* I'm just glad that OSC is overseeing the movie so they don't mess that up.

You know you'll buy the games anyway, Verai. Don't pretend like you won't. ^_^

Well, its hard to completely screw up a game, there's always some kind of redeming quality or bug err *cough* feature that redems it. For me there are no good or bad games just games that disapoint me at some level.

There was this really cool mod being made for the game Homeworld a couple of years ago that was based on the ansible "simulator" used in Ender's Game, and it looked REALLY COOL! They had a very professional-sounding team, too. It got shutdown or something, because it eventually just faded away, but I always thought that'd be the ideal type of game for an Ender's Game game.

Sid, now that we're in a game thread I have to ask:

ARE YOU THE SID MEIER?!!

God, no. He's a kid.

Lol, the count of people who ask me that is now up to 6... And why "God no" that hurt somewhat even though I'm grinning.

Also, I ahve to wonder why people don't just click and look at my profile.... Kinda weird...

Let's be fair - if made correctly, an Ender's Game electronic game could kick six kinds of trash.

Unfortunately, I can't think of any aspects of the novels that could be adapted into fun, original gameplay.

Perhaps a PC game strategy simulator, similar to the kind used in the jeesh on Eros? A Bugger shooter (shudder)?

Let's be honest - any Ender's Game game is going to bite the big one. They'll misinterpret everything, and I don't get the impression OSC is necessarily a hardcore gamer.

No - my money's in the Hackersnack remake.

It looks like Will Wright is working on the Hackersnack sequel right now ... eat stuff, evolve, eat more stuff ...

People who can't think of a way for Ender's Game to be adapted into a fun, original game should rightfully leave that process to the professionals [Smile] More and more often, games adapted from other media are actually getting taken seriously these days (Riddick, Spider-man 2), and a property as beloved by the game-development community as Ender's Game WILL get the star treatment, wherever it ends up.

Of course, if your definition of "made correctly" implies "deviates not at all from the text of the novel" or "recreates my private dream of gaming perfection", then naturally, you'll be disappointed.

There should be several different Ender's Game games -- if they fail to make a battle room simulation they are insane.

It needs to be formatted roughly like Unreal Tournament '99 -- tons of maps (battle room configurations) and great physics to which literally an unlimited amount of strategies can be applied. Two teams, each teammate an actual person playing the game FPS style on their own computers. The light goes on, the doors open, and the enemy gate is down.

I would never get tired of such a game. (It took me 5 years to get tired of UT99).

An Xbox 360 battle room simulator with 32-player online play and voice communicator access would make me shudder with glee.

I don't think the main story would adapt as much more than a point-and-click story game.

They should just make it the battleroom. You could have some storyline to it... but that's the main game.

A zero-gravity tactical shooter would be pretty much.

I'd most like to see a game that more creates the Formic Invasion. Space fighter RTS kind of thing, of course with full camera rotation ability for lack of up-down sense.

You could also develop the idea of a clan much easier- like they do in a lot of games like UT, CS, where a whole clan plays together and is able to talk to each other via headsets and the higher members can give orders to the lower members and some such stuff. If it was well designed it would be very cool.

Hmm. . . I think the mere fact that Ender's Game (and much of OSC's more accessable work) IS readable by unusually-smart pre-teens pigeonholes it in the "youth reading" category.

I love the idea of people reading "Ender's Game" as a youth and then moving up to the more sophisticated plot of the rest of the Ender and Bean series'. OSC understands how good authors work - he didn't try to make his next Ender novel a retread of Ender's Game. In fact, the rest of the Ender and Bean series is totally different in feel from the first books! Great stuff.

Ender's Game (and its nearly-as-accessible cousin, Ender's Shadow) is probably the most compelling set of novels that I've ever read, from a character standpoint. I first read it at the age of twelve or so, but it's required reading for all ages.

Just because a book is understandable by a wide audience doesn't mean it's limited to that audience. What the movie companies understand (A "G" rating doesn't classify the movie for children), it seems the publishing companies have yet to pick up on.

I remember reading "Lost Boys" in seventh grade; not a children's book, to be sure, and I didn't understand it all, but I recognized its quality even at that age.

One more caveat: I love quality childrens' books. I could read a good Barbara Park book anyday - I still count the "Junie B. Jones" books as favorites, because they paint an accurate picture of childhood without talking down to children. They make me laugh as hard as any Dave Barry book.
