Currently lacking certain information and because I don't believe that curiosity killed the cat I would like to ask a couple of question concerning your political views. Preferably essayish answers since I thrive on details.

1- What is your opinion/view on Israel and why? I'm not asking in any positive or negative context.

2- The war on Terror, now concerning your Bean books you have quite a twist and some amazing idea's in military strategy which in my strategy Sims like Hoi2 influenced me to my boldest victories (using paratroops to invade England and the United States as Germany greatest victory ever) How would you win the war? Or even better a rough idea of if you wrote a story like one of your Enderverse books how would that book deal with it in such a way to end it believably?

3- I can easily understand the justification for the invasion of Afghanistan since it was the location of the Al'Que eda training camps but I am perplexed about the war in Iraq. After losing in Kuwait I would think that Suddam had lost quite a bit of his base of support and would eventually be overthrown by his own people. What I ask is why do you support the war on terror in Iraq not as "Why would you do that!" but more of intellectual curiosity to find motivation and why you feel its justified. I do this without the intent of criticism.

4- How soon do you think we have to wait until we get Fusion reactors? I think they are amazing ever since I read the Isaac Asimov since article about them.

5- What is your view on the Taiwan-China issue? I get the feeling from your SotG series that you think they'll unify eventually but a feeling is hardly a good replacement for knowing what you think, so I’d like to know why. I have a guess that maybe because so much of America's economy is tied into China that they simply can't afford to go to war with China over Taiwan but that's only a guess.

6- Spaceship One the first commercial space craft what do you think of it?

7- the EU referendum I find is an interesting event and motivates me to pay more attention to European politics, what do you feel the new EU constitution will one day lead to?

8- Vladimir Putin, do you think he is the first of a line of authoritarian generals and politicians that will one day forge a Second Warsaw Pact? or at the very least a return somewhat of Russian power?

9- Many sources suggest that American power and influence is declining do to the ever increasing competition from Japan and China and due to America's laissez faire economy can't change itself to changing world economic circumstances fast enough to deal with it, also other things such as the massive debt and recent anti American sentiment from other nations do you feel that America is in decline and will fall back to pre WWI isolationism with limited UN involvement?

10- From a recent article/interview that I read you felt that the LDS Church (or the community) was becoming to capitalistic. Now being somewhat Communist myself (I wont hide and say Socialist its denying history that way and all its sacrifices) I ask what are your views on Marxism/Marxist-Leninism/Marxist-Stalinist, and what you feel is the road Communism should take to achieve its goals of democratic freedom of the proletariat while not becoming careerist/monolithic/state controlled capitalist game of monopoly in the process?

I ask these question with the fullest intent of trying to understand my favorite living author better, I mean no criticism or harm and I tried not to pry into your personal life, and I will say I so very much enjoy your novels and if I can ever find the Worthing saga I will read it. Since I think there is some kind of pseudo civ reference in it. Anyways its 8:14 here, so have a good evening I'm going to play Hearts of Iron with me friends now. *waves* And congrats on all of your recent successes. [Hat]

I think these would make great topics for your Onery American Articles. These topics could justify weeks of responses each.

But I'd like to add one:

11) What is your opinion on Peeps? Yummy or disgusting?

Posted by Remnant (Member # 8129) on :

or something more dialectic?

Posted by Sid Meier (Member # 6965) on :

Peeps? Do you mean people who peep on other people? Like peeping toms?

Posted by Lupus (Member # 6516) on :

my guess is he is talking about those delicious marshmallow chickens covered in sugar that they sell around Easter.

BTW, your topic contained a question...so you really asked OSC 11 questions. [Smile]

We've got lots of them. Unfortunately, the closest one is almost 100,000,000 miles away.

Lol, I mean an artificial man made fusion reactor not a star. lol

ive wanted to ask osc some of these questions also but never found the time to sit down and type them out. your the man Sid [Smile] .

Wow. I was expecting questions like, "what inspired you to become a writer?", and "which of your works are you most proud of?" But that first post reads like the final exam of a political science course! [Razz]

Posted by Will B (Member # 7931) on :

Actually, I'm pretty grateful that the nearest fusion reactor is about 100M miles away!

Posted by Sid Meier (Member # 6965) on :

lol, Neo did you mean my first "post" or my first "question" in context I assume you meant question and yeah I've had a recent course on world views and it slightly infuenced my question. As for an exam I never had one in the course it was just write 3 essays and your done. I got 79,79 and 80.

Posted by Sid Meier (Member # 6965) on :

Actually a fusion reactor is relatively safe when compared to a fission reactor.

There are plenty of fusion reactors, even man-made ones. What we don't yet have is one that produces more usable energy than you put into it.

I believe a day will come when we will harness the sun in a much more efficient manner than we have done in the past.

Then the only trick will be is to make batteries deep enough to store all the power we can capture.

"Hey Mic, how long does your old MP3 player go between charges?"
"Standard twelve months like everyone else's. Why?"
"I've got the new version that goes for three years! SUCKER!"
"Yeah, but my trusty Toyota can still go for two months while you pay seventeen bucks a gallon for that petrol drinking dinosaur you call a car."

Posted by Sid Meier (Member # 6965) on :

lol

Posted by neo-dragon (Member # 7168) on :

Actually, I meant the entire first post except for the questions about science related stuff like fusion reactors.

Posted by Sid Meier (Member # 6965) on :

aaaaah okies. Just making sure.

Jeez Sid, good questions, but if I were OSC (I'm not) I'd feel like I had a homework assignment.

Posted by Sid Meier (Member # 6965) on :

hehehe well its not my assignment just to let you know schools over for me for the summer, this is out of curiosity and to know Mr Card's opinions better.

One simple thing that we can do to more efficently harness the energy of the sun is to all become vegeterians.

Must...tear into...animal flesh!
Cannot live on...rabbit food...only...

I have went by 'Vader's Jester' in the past as well as 'Seppuku' on a few other forums, but I've always been 'Exploding Monkey' on these forums.

Does my speech sound like someone you know from here or somewhere else?

Blah so many people change their screen names so often I don't bother keeping track anymore.

Thank you!! [Smile] I am deeply appreciative. I keep on having flashbacks of the s-less question, but I think, in time, I'll get over it. [Smile]

And please don't try to make me insane. The results could be frightening.

Nah, that's probably not me. I don't use Seppuku very much. I mostly use Exploding Monkey and I haven't used Vader's Jester in years.

I just realized all my screen names are about suicide. Time for me to get some help. [Wink]

Why is it that each time I read the title of this thread, it reminds my of a scene in Austin Powers 1, in the plane, when he says "I won't bite... Hard." with this stupid look?

Anna,
Funny, I'm reminded of the Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin's standing by a pile of snowballs he made and tell Hobbes "If someone hits me with a snowball, I'll hit him with 10 snowballs." to which Hobbes replies "What if someone hits you with 10 snowballs?" which leads to Calvin working into the night to build a huge mound of snowballs.

Sid,
Remember, OSC doesn't owe you anything. If you want him to answer you, try limiting yourself to one question at a time and make that question as clear as you can. If/when he answers that, you can talk about his answer or possibly ask another question, but shotgunning 10 questions at someone isn't a particularly good way of inducing him to spend time writing out answers.

Another thing you may want to try is to take the effort to form questions without glaring spelling and grammatical errors. When asking someone else to make a voluntary investment of his time, it's probably a good idea to show that you've taken care yourself.

edited the spelling mistakes.
