Been re-reading the series. Was San Angelo, the guy that founded the Filhos, married himself? Or did he just come up with all of this pie in the sky stuff that just happened to work?

His maritial status was never mentioned. Though it always felt like he was single to me, but that could go either way.

I thought I remembered it saying that he wasn't married. Someone commented on how their doctrine wasn't sensible because their founder wasn't married. I could be making it up though......

Yeah, this time through it just struck me how much OSC made San Angelo a "real" character even though he was dead at the time.

San Angelo, while in my opinion probably single, did hope that all Filhos would eventually leave the order to have children of the body. But, as Dona Christa said, leaving the order was too painful once they were part of that community- once they had sacrificed so much to be a part of it.
