Well all of you who have read Enchantment are already familiar with the being Baba Yaga, at least OSC's take on her. For those of you who don't know anything about her she is a character in russian folklore and is often considered the god of the dead and after christianization of the general eastern europe area has been called the grandmother of the devil.
Why I bring this up is that I am incredibly interested in folklore and comparative mythology, but I am having trouble tracking down any old tales of Baba Yaga and other Russian folklore. OSC, if you could share where you got some of your information when working on Enchantment, or if anyone else knows of good books or websites (preferably books) that cover russian folklore to any extent I'd greatley appreciate the info.

Baba Yaga's not so bad, provided you can get some cool glowing eyes and a cool hat for the skull on her gate, and maybe some corn for her hut.
I think maybe Rakeesh will get this, hoping someone else will, too....

You know, one of the many, too-too-many things I loved about that game was trying to game Baba Yaga. In the first game, if you slept in town in the Inn, or Erana's Peace, after the curse was supposed to have taken effect, you were safe-because of the blessings put on those places by Erana.
But once you went OUT, though...
In QfGIV, if you were multiclassed or a Wizard with the appropriate spells, you could do things like cast Reversal and various defense spells to thwart Baba Yaga's attempts to freeze, transform, stick, cook, etc., you. She didn't like that very much Posted by Scott R (Member # 567) on :

"Hut of brown, now sit down!" Ahh the old Days of Quest for Glory They used the whole stint. It was quite hummourous. God I miss those types of adventure games. So fun and creative and hillarious. Thier version of Baba Yaga was quite cool. I remeber her in the original games I don't remember her in part IV though. That was the Vampire/Werewolf one if I recall. Never did play 5 though.

Excellent... there are more of us! More, I say!
The QfG series has to be my favorite of the old Sierra line, with Space Quest and King's Quest naturally right behind. My favorite was QfG2; loved that intermission!
LucasArts also got things very right with Monkey Island.

Whenever I hear Baba Yaga's name I always think of the Sierra games. I remember playing Quest for Glory when it was originally Hero's Quest (and subsequent lawsuit occurred).
Space Quest/Quest for Glory/Kings Quest/Police Quest (the first few) were some of the best games to ever come out and in my opinion still are. Gone are the days when you had to actually think and be creative to move around the universe you were given. Now it's point and click the obvious out of place pieces or select the choice of words you want.. The puzzles can be tough now but nothing like the days of the Quest series'.
