Hi guys! Glad to join this forum!

Anyways I have just finished reading a book my Lit teacher suggested to me - the Songmaster. I have read some sci-fi novel in the past but nothing could prepare me for the story of Ansset and his journey from orphan to the Emperor's greatest treasure.

I was really fascinated how humanistic these characters are. Some of the previous sci-fi books from other authors I read had less character interaction and emotion - and more technical jargon, which created to me a sort of vacuum barrier when trying to feel apathy for these characters. That's one of the challenges I continue to face in my own writing sci-fi stories - to keep it realistic and connected to the reader without losing everyone in the technical jargons and concepts Im trying to show. Sometimes in reading sci-fi novels when not enough emotion is described, I just can't connect with the characters. Yet reading Songmaster was to me was like reading such dramatic novels as "The Poisonwood Bible" except set in the future. Everything flowed well and it felt like if I was reading this novel three billion years in the future, I might think I was reading some contemporary real-life situation that can very well happen in that time. I have found during my hobby as a amateur story-writer that voices in characters are essential. And in the Songmaster, every character's voice felt unique and most important of all - real. Hate created from a mix of love and jealousy, the emptiness of life felt by an established tyrant and emperor - these juxatopositions in the novel, that one can extrapolate into our own emotional lifes and relationships as well...

I will continue in my writing hobby and see if one-day I might be able to create such beautiful voices and realism in my stories such as you did yours Mr. Card.
