I just read this story, and the image it brings to mind is the scene of street urchins in Ender's Shadow... I encourage you to read it, and to donate your time or money to the American Red Cross in this time of need.

God Bless.

The funny thing is that I've been sharply criticized for the Rotterdam stuff in Shadow because "kids can't do that." Children shouldn't HAVE to do that, but they can. It's worth remembering when we look at all those dumb teenagers listening to stupid music and wearing ugly clothes and wasting their time, if society told them that after eighth grade they had to get a job and didn't force them to remain in school and reserve all the decent jobs for college grads, then they wouldn't be behaving like children, would they?

Oh, that hurts my heart. I have a three year old and a four month old and to imagine the anguish of them being separated from me and my wife... If the parents of those children are alive, they must be frantic.

The parents are alive. I posted this on the other side. The circumstances that separated them are tragic, but I'm happy all are alive and well. [Smile]
