So*, I was sitting in the theater waiting for Harry Potter to start (oh my gosh, I can't believe I spent money on that movie *sigh*), and saw a preview for Monster House, and all I could think of was, "Hmmm, a haunted house with an evil personality that tries to destroy/consume people who come near it. Gee, now, where can I have heard this?" In fact, I said something about it to my husband. Which is unusual, I generally keep allusions to things he hasn't read to myself. I mean, going only by the trailer, I can't tell where the similarities end. But sheesh.

Fortunately, Homebody is not SILLY, which is what Monster House looks to be.

Meanwhile, I'm sorry you didn't like the latest Harry Potter. I thought it was wonderful ... but no film is going to be to the taste of EVERY audience member. I mean, gosh, there are even people who don't think Titanic was the perfect movie ...

No you don't. Seriously. Only 12-year olds think that movie is good. I should know, it came out when I was 12.

Personally, I can't wait until they make this into a movie.

After watching the preview I couldn't help but feel how less distracting it would have been if it were a live action movie. The animation seems so wooden.

Isn't the living house a public domain horror concept? They did it in the first Simpsons Halloween special, so it has to be in the culture in general.

Isn't Rose Red a Stephen King film about a living house? I haven't seen it, but that's what the promos for it on the SciFi channel make it look like.

Everything's usable. you can't copyright ideas, only actual language and, more and more, the direct flow of action. But "the house is alive" stories or "guess who's actually dead" stories - you can't copyright that. But you CAN look at one and go, this is WAY too close to (source material) for this just to be a coincidence.

But you can own your ideas unless you live in Utah then your employer legally owns them instead.
