Imagine: A first-person RPG where the player attempts to juggle writing 3 or 4 novels a year, going on tour for them, writing a weekly review column and regular political and religious columns, editing two major online magazines, commuting 2 1/2 hours to teach college courses several days/week, directing a few plays per year, writing a few more plays, raising an almost adolescent daughter, spoiling a granddaughter, and writing the screenplay for the next Hollywood blockbuster event of the year, all while occasionally getting flamed on your own website.

Sounds like a hit!

I think you'd need to make it more realistic first. Sure, it's a video game, but there has to be some grounding in reality.

How about this year, where the character doesn't write a single darn book.

Don't feel bad, OSC, you've already written more (good) novels than any reader has the right to expect. But put me down as one of the people who will be disappointed if the Alvin Maker series doesn't get finished eventually.

Heh sorry, for humor sake I'll quote Family Guy on this one:

How you uh, how you comin' on that novel you're working on? Huh? Gotta a big, uh, big stack of papers there? Gotta, gotta nice litte story you're working on there? Your big novel you've been working on for 3 years? Huh? Gotta, gotta compelling protaganist? Yeah? Gotta obstacle for him to overcome? Huh? Gotta story brewing there? Working on, working on that for quite some time? Huh? (voice getting higher pitched) Yea, talking about that 3 years ago. Been working on that the whole time? Nice little narrative? Beginning, middle, and end? Some friends become enemies, some enemies become friends? At the end your main character is richer from the experience? Yeah? Yeah? (voice returns to normal) No, no, you deserve some time off.

You aren't deteriorating in your work at all, there is no immediate sign of your death, so take your time, live your life a little.

Trying to quit cold turkey eh? Well, it should give me a chance to catch up on reading everything.

What?! No books this year? But what shall I give my brother for his birthday?

The main action could be twitching the game pad in an attempt to select letters and actually write a novel! It could have a built in spell checker and offer suggestions: "your grammar is atrocious", "your vocabulary is equivalent to that of a 3rd grader", "you have too many characters with names are too hard to remember", "nobody would ever say that in real life", "you are soap-boxing... again..."

Maybe if I viewed writer's block as a Covenant drop ship, I would be more successful.
