I'm big into audiobooks. And I give them to my fellow friends who travel a great deal. But I wonder, why isn't there a great market for "signing" audiobooks.

You'd think a writer like OSC could just have 2 MP3s, one that would say something like:

"Hi, (insert name here)"

Second MP3:

"This book is one of my favs.." or whatever..

Then join the two together and whammo! Personalized audiobook with a forward from the author. OSC wouldn't even have to try that hard (Hi Steve, Hi Chris, Hi Tom, etc. which could then be re-used ad-nauseum).

*shrug* I just think about this as so many people are buying audiobooks like I am (through Audible or Itunes) and such a personalization in the form of a small MP3 could be really cool (I'd pay for one)

Well I use an ipod for all my audiobooks and if someone i have on my ipod is in the area i might go and have them sign it. I just hate seeming fanboi-ish (sp?) which is all book signings feel like to me.

In most of my recent audiobooks, I do an afterword, which I ad-lib on the spot.

It's as close as we can get. Personalizing would be phony anyway. Bring a taperecorder to a signing and get your own sound bite. But I would never, never say "This is one of my faves." Just thought I'd help you with that <grin>.

Yeah, it's cheezy, but I know someone in your publishing house has to see this and say "dang! We could make money selling those!" (An unnamed, but very famous, writer who lived out his life in Lawerence, KS, paid many bills doing something similar [Wink]

I got Robert Stoddard to sign my 'Stone Tables' cd, so it's not unheard of.

[Big Grin]

Of course, I think I freaked him out a bit, begging after his autograph on this scratched up CD.
